This invention relates to new and useful improvements in rope holders, generally though not specifically adapted for use in the securing of clothes line ends whereby to permit the line to be tautly arranged between opposite posts, and also topermit the line to be readily detached from the posts when not in use in order that the line may be stored within the house, thus protecting it from the weather. One of the most pertinent objects of this invention is to provide a rope holder of this characterthat is extremely simple in construction and inexpensive of manufacture and one that is well adapted for rigidly securing the line in taut condition.

Furthermore the invention is characterized by a removable clamp member to permit the line to be quickly and easily associated with or removed from the holder.

From the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of theinvention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel holder consists of a bracket member 5 in the form of a casting or stamping constructed to provide a narrow back wall 6 and a pair of spaced parallel side walls 77. Said back wall 6 of this bracket is provided at its opposite ends with screw openings to permit the bracket to be screwed or otherwise securely attached to a clothes line post, or other supporting element.

The side walls 7 ofthis bracket are formed with upwardly and inwardly extending scribed.

narrow back wall 10 and a pair of narrow side walls 11 11 that merge into the backwall at a point above the lower end of the clamping lever. The back wall is formed throughout its length with a rope receiving channel 10, while this back wall extends forwardly between the upper ends of the side walls 99 to provide a curved upper end for the clamping lever. Arranged between the said sidewalls of this clamping lever beneath the upper end thereof is a pin 12, the ends of which project beyond the side walls for engagement within the hooks 88 of the bracket member 6, thus providing a pivotal support for the clamping lever. Loosely attached to the pins between the sides of the clamping lever is a short chain 13 that is in turn secured at its lower end to one of the side walls of the bracket to prevent entire displacement of the lever with respect to the bracket. In actual use, the clamping lever is removed from the hooks of the bracket after which one end of the rope A is arranged downwardly through the bracket. The clamping lever is then arranged in position as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, and a pull upon the rope beneath the lever will release the same to enable the rope to be pulled between the bracket and the lever. In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawingit will be apparent that I have provided a novel, simple and useful rope holder that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
