This invention relates to improvements in lamp boxes or supports for incubators.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a thoroughly fire-proof lamp box for securely holding the lamp in its proper place and protected against sudden. drafts, while also serving to shield the boiler so as to conserve heat and reduce fuel consumption. In the latter connection 1 have provided a jacket enclosingthe boiler and providing a chimney opening at the lower. end thereof, and vent openings at the upper end with a view not only to shielding the boiler to retain the heat therein but also providing for more even temperature regulation than could be secured by the damper control alone.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side View of a lamp box shown mounted 011 the end ofan incubator case;

The lamp box or. support illustrated comprises sheet metal brackets 5 fastened, as by means of screws 6, to the side of the case 7. The brackets 5 are suitably secured as by spot welding at 8 to a curved shield 9. The latter has a shelf 10 at the lower end thereof .lor the support oi the lamp, indicated generally by the reference numeral 11. The latter comprises a burner 12 supplied with oil by means of a wick in the usual manner from a bowl 13. The burner has the usual draft openings, indicated at 14C, and is equipped with a bell-shaped chimney 15 for conducting the products of combustion to the boiler 16. The boiler forms. a part of the usual hot water heating system and communicates with the pipes of the system by way of an inflow pipe 17 and a return flow pipe 18. A filling cup 19 is provided to facilitate the filling of the system with water, and a drain plug 20 is provided at the lowest point of the system on the boiler 16 to permit draining the system when the incubator is to be out of service for an extended periodof time. Theburner 12 may be adjusted in the usual manner by means of a stem 21 and the size of the flame is obinafter fully described.

No invention is, therefore, claimed as to these details excepting only in so far. as they con tribute toward the novel arrangement here- The boilerlG, in accordance with my in- Vention, is practically entirely enclosed by a sheet metal jacket 25 supported, as by means of brackets 26 from the side of the case 7 over the chimney 15. The jacket 25 is closed at the bottom by a plate 27 in which an opening 28 is provided to receive the upper end of the chimney 15. The latter, by reason of its tapered form, is easily entered in the opening 28 and is arranged to make a snug fit therein such as will prevent an indraft of air about the chimney into the flue 22, the object being to avoid anyiiame disturbance otherwise commonly causedby sudden gusts of wind. It will be observed that the lamp is removably disposed beneath the boiler on a circular drawor 29. The latter is larger in diameter than the lamp bowl 13 so as to serve as a drip pan therefor and. has spaced supporting pieces 30, within the diameter thereof to serve as supports for the lamp bowl. The removal of the drawer enables the lowering of the lamp a whole to withdraw the upper end of the chimney from the opening 28 in an obviousmanner.
The upper end of the jacket 25 iscut away at the innerside, as indicated at 31, to faciL itate the assembling of the boiler withinlthe jacket, while a cover plate 32 closes the top about the upper end of thei'lue 22. The latter preferably extends beyond the upper end of the boiler 16, as indicated at 83, and passes through an opening 34 provided in the cover plate, thus serving to" center the boiler and jacket with respect to one another so that the walls thereof are substantially evenly spaced on all sides. 1 Lugs 35 provided on the side walls ofthe jacket 25 serve to detachably secure the cover plate and the and opening 31.

It also follows from a consideration of the above that greater economy in fuel consumption is secured as the heat of the boiler is not dissipated by radiation to such extents as heretofore am the heat losses otherwise incident to damper controls arev avoided to a largeextent. The complete shielding ot the lamp, boiler, and chimney outlet, furthermore, el minates lire hazards.

In an incubator comprising a case having a supporting bracket thereon, the combination of a boiler having con'imunication with the usual pipe system in said case and providing a vertical flue extending therethrough and beyond the upper end thereof, a lamp arranged to be supported on said bracket and having a chimney rising therefrom, the upper end of which is arranged normally to communicate with the lower end of said flue, and a jacket completely enclosing the sides and ends of said boiler, the same being supported above said chimney and having side jacket walls in spaced relation to the outside walls of said boiler, a bottom jacket wall spaced from the lower end of the boiler flue provided with an opening to snugly receive the upper end of said chimney, and a perforated top jacket wall spaced from the upper end of the boiler provided with an opening receiving the projecting upper end of said boiler flue.

In an incubator comprising a case having a supporting bracket thereon. the combination of a lamp supported on said "bracket and having a chimney rising therefrom, a boiler having communication with the usual pipe system in said case and providing a vertical flue thcrethrough communicating at its lower cndwith the upper end of said chimney, a jacket supported above said chimney in spaced relation to the outside walls of said boiler, said jacket being rigidly supported with said bracket from 'said case and having a lower wall provided with an opening to receive the upper end of said chimney, and means removably disposed beneath said lamp on said bracket for holdim the u )er end of the cliimncv h a v I I I, removably engaged in its opening in the acket.
