My invention relates to pump heads for vertical deep well pumps and is adapted to operate the piston rod or plunger rod of such a pump. Such pumplng apparatus is used principally 011 oil well pumps but may be used on water well pumps also.
The principal object of my invention is to provide an enclosed self oiling pump head :ulapted to transform a rotary motion into an oscillating motion whose speed on the down or idle stroke of the plunger rod 1s greater than. the speed on the up or working stroke. Such differential speeds result in increased capacity of the pump to which the head is connected without increasing the piston travel per minute on the up or working stroke, where the power is exerted. This results in an increased number of complete strokes of the piston per minute over mechanisms having equally timed down and up stroke and substantially increases the pumping capacity of the apparatus.
Another object of the invention is to affect such improvement in the details of construction and arrangement of the principal work ing parts as will permit their being sultably encased, the casing having an oil reservoir adequate for their lubrication and of such shape and size as to contain the gears and hearing portions of all moving parts.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for adapting the mechamsmto strokes of dillt'erent length quickly, readily and, without disassembling the power head.
In the particular embodiment of my invention selected for illustration Figure 1, is an exterior elevation of the complete power head from the end thru which the walking-beam extends, with the extension arm of the walking beam removed,

Referring now to the drawings, numeral 2 is a cast box-like case carrying bosses 3, 4 extending both inside and outside of the case 2, and 5 extending inside said case. This case 2 designed having one upper side portion constructed as a removable cover 6 and is held in place in relation to the main body of the case by bolts 7 in suitable flanges 8, 8 hence by the removal of bolts 7 from flanges 8, 8

the upper side portion or cover 6 can be removed giving easy and quick access to all of the working parts contained in case 2.
The walking beam 17 is pivoted on the inner end of the stud 19 which is securely fastened in boss 5 forming a part of case 2. The walk ing beam 17 on its outer end is provided with a flange 25 to which is bolted with short bolts and nuts 20 an extension arm 21, having flange 26 and so designed as to be readily connected by links 22 or other suitable means to the deep well piston or plunger rod 28.
v The free end of the walking beam 17 extends outside case 2 through the slot 24, and it will be readily understood that by having different lengths of extension arms 21 different lengths of stroke or movement can be provided to suit the stroke of the deep well pump rod to which it is desired to connect my ver tical deep well power head without opening the case 2 or adjusting any parts therein.
It will be apparent that by the rotation of pinion 10, thru pulley 11 and shaft 9, the gear- 13 will be rotated and its crank pin 16, whose journal boxes 18, 18 work freely in the slot 17 of the walking beam 17 will cause an oscillating movement of the walking beam 17 on its pivot 19 suitable for connection to deep well piston or plunger rod 23 which is the object of the apparatus.
The case 2 is so formed that a suitable amount of lubricating oil 0 can be placed therein so the lower rim of gear 13 will be submerged, which in its revolutions carries the lubricant to pinion 10 and shafts 9 and 12 also on each downward mot-ion of the walking beam 17 it will dip into the lubricant thus lubrieating pin 16' and boxes 18, 18 together with shaft pin 19.
I do not intend to limit myself to the precise form shown but claim as Within the scope of my invention all forms of power heads readable on the claims.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. A walking beam slotted at its inner end and pivoted outwardly of said slot, said walking beam terminating in a flange at its outer end, flanged lengthening attachments and means for securing said walking beam and one of itslengthening attachments together.
