CALLUS PROTECTOR AND ARCH SUPPORT Filed Jan. 19, 1929 ATTORNEY f Patented June 25, 1929.
UNiTE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK CALVO, F WATERBURY, UONNECTICUT.`
CALLUS PROTECTOR AND ARCH SUPPORT.
Application filed January 19, 1929. Serial No. 333,549.
This invention relates to foot appliances, and more particularly to a combination callus protector and arch support.
One object et this invention is to provide a device ot the above nature which maybe accurately adjusted at any desired position along the length Of the Sole. i
el Vfurther object is to provide a device ot the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install and adjust, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very eiiicient and durable in use.
l/Vth these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on th accompanying drawings one form in which the invention may be Aconveniently embodied, in practice.
Fig. l represents a bottom plan view of the invention showing the callussprotecting and arch-supporting pad in operating' posin tion.
Fig. 2 is a similar bottom view of the same with the pad removed.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. Il is a t1agmentary longitudinal sectional view or the saine taken along the line Ilm-1l of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view oi' the buckle employed tor adjustably securing the pad to the insole.
Fig. G a side view et a human foot show ing the invention as it appears in use.
Fi 7 is a top perspective view of the callus protecting` and arch-supporting pad.
Referring now to the drawings in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral l0 indicates a calins-protecting and arch-supporting pad, preferably circular in plan view, having a spherical top and a iat base, as clearly shown in Figs. t and 7. The pad 10 is provided with a central vertical rectangular aperture 1l for snugly receiving a buckle 12, by means of which the pad l0 is adapted to be secured at any desired adjusted position along an insole 13, preferably of leather. The upper portion of the pad 10 is provided with a pair of longitudinally extending1 alined recesses 14 and 15 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
The insole 13 is preferably constructed from a relatively thick upper section 16 stitched or otherwise secured to a lower section 17, the latter being provided near its rear end with a pair oi' spaced parallel slits 18 and 19, between which is a narrow central strip 20. The central strip 20 is reinforced and prevented from twisting out of shape by a metal stiiiening band 21 running substantially the vlf'ull length of the insole 13.
As most clearly shownlin Fig. `5, the buckle for attaching the pad 10 to the strip 20 cornprises a horizontal flat base 22 from which extend a pair `of vertical side wings 23 and 24 and four end prongs 25, 26, 27, and 28, said prongs being bent longitudinally at their eX- trernities to lit under the edges of the aperture 11 in the flat base of `the pad 10. `The bottom edges of the side wing`s`23 and 24 and t-he longitudinal extremities of said prongs are adapted to lie Hush with the fiat bottom surface of said pad 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.
In order to permit the pad `to 1be securely held in any desired position alongthe length oat the central strip 20, the buckle 12 is provjdedwith an angular metal tongue 29 having a normally vertical gripping section 30 provided with a serrated edge 3l or engaging against said strip 20. The tongue 29 is also provided with an inclined fiat web 32 having a slot 33 in its edge for permitting the insertion of the linger of the user for facilitating the swinging of said tongue from locked to unlocked position about the pivot pins 34 eX- tending laterally from the angular tongue 29 and located in socket-s 35 in the side wings 23 and 24. A
`While there has been disclosed in this speci fication one form in which the invention ma be embodied, it is to be understood that this forin is shown for the purpose of illustration, only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the speciiic 'disclosure but may be modi- `lied and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is
1. In an adjustable foot support adapted to be worn in a shoe under the foot, an insole, a pad located under said insole, a buckle carried by said pad and having its base connected to said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to detachably and adjust-ably secure said pad at any desired point under said insole.
2. In an adjustable foot support adapted to be worn in ashoe under the foot, an insole comprising upper and lower layers, a pad located under said insole, a buckle carried by Said pad and having its base connected to the lower` layer of said insole, said buckle having apivotedtongue to detachably and adjustablyv secure said vpad at any desired point under said-insole. l
. 5 k3. VIn-.an adjustable foot support adapted to bewornin ashoe under the foot, an insole,
,t a padlocatedunder said insole, said pad having an aperture, a buckle carried by said pad and,A having its base connected to said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to detachablyand adjustably secure said pad at I, anyfdesired point under said insole.

pad-located under saidinsole, said pad having a central rectangular aperture, a buckle carried by said lpad and having its base connected to said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to Adetachably and adj ustably secure i saidpad at anydesired point under said insole. Y f
-, 5.--Inan adjustable foot support adapted to be. Worn in a shoe under the foot, an'insole comprising upper and rlower layers, a pad located under said insole, a buckle carried by said-.padfand having its base connected to the lower layer of said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to detachably and adjustably secure said pad at any desired point'l under said insole, the base of said buckle having a pair of vertical side wings adapted to lie Hush with the base of said pad.
6. In an adjustable foot support adapted to be Worn in a shoe under the foot, an insole comprising Vupper and lower layers, a pad located under said insole, a buckle carried by said pad and having its base connected to the lower layer of said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to detachably and adjustably secure said pad at any desired point under said insole, the base of said buckle having four holding lugs bent downwardly and lou gitudinally for clamping upon the flat under surface of said pad.
7. In an adjustable foot support adapted to be worn in a shoe under the foot, an insole| comprising upper and lower layers, a pad located under said insole, a buckle carried by said pad and having its base connected to the lower layer of said insole, said buckle having a pivoted tongue to detaehably and adjustably secure said pad at any desired point under said insole the base of said buckle having a plurality of holding lugs bent downwardly and longitudinally for clampingr upon the flat under surface of said pad.
In testimony whereof, I have ailxed my signature to this specification.
