Description
April 12. 1921.
E. Q. JOHNSON TOE ADJUSTER Fil d Oct. 3; 1925 JUTORNEY Patented Apr. 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES EMELYN O. JOHNSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEV] YORK.
TOE ADJUSTER.
Application filed October 3, 1925.
. This invention relates to improvements in toe adjusting devices, and its principal object is to provide means for holding the toes in correct alignment and relation to each other without unduly restricting the natural movements of same when walking, or when the weight of the body is resting upon the feet.
A further object is flexibility in the basic elements of the supporting members.
It is further intended toprovide an element adapted for maintaining the principal members in proper position and alignment within a shoe, or the like, and means for reducing the length of the said element to fit correctly within the said shoe.
Other features and objects will be illustrated and described in the following drawings and specification.
In the said drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the device in its preferred form.
Fig. 2 shows an enlarged section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 shows an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 shows a perspective view'of the toe holding elements entirely covered with fabric, or similar material.
Fig. 5 shows an enlarged section on the line 55 of Figure 4.
Fig. 6 shows a plan view of the device with the longitudinal element resting within a channel of an inner sole.
Fig. 7 shows a section on the line 77 of Figure 6.
Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings; the device as shown consists of a main plate 10, an elongated tongue, or strip member 11 extending rearwardly from the base thereof,
an upturned lateral toe supporting member 12, a sleeve of flexible, yielding material 13 surrounding the said member 12, and a Serial No. 60,145.
series of graduations on the said tongue member as shown at 14;.
It will be seen that, in section the tongue member 11 is fiat with beveled edges and adapted to rest under the foot of the wearer Without giving cause for discomfort. The graduations thereon indicate the points at which this member may be cut off to fita shoe of the desired size.
The supporting member 12 may be bent to conform perfectly to any required out line, and is possessed of a degree of flexibility which permits it to .give way under pressure as indicated by the dotted line 15.
If desired; the sleeve 13 may be discarded, and the entire main plate and supporting member covered with cloth, or other suitable material as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, at 18.
In the modification shown in Figure 6; the tongue member rests within the channel 16 of an inner-sole 17, and the main plate upon a suitably reduced portion thereof. The device may be cemented in this position, if desired.
Bunions and like foot troubles may be corrected and cured by the use of this article, and persons suffering from these ailments will find both comfort and increased efficiency in its continued use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
In a toe adjusting device having a main plate and a lateral support to the toe vertically arranged on said main plate, the combination of a strip of stiff material extending rearwardly from and integral with said main plate, and an inner sole formed with a channel engageable with said strip member.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
EMELYN O. JOHNSON.
