This invention relates to a device for protecting a shoe, and the objects of the invention are to provide a protecting pad, which is adapted to he secured to the rear portion oi: a shoe, and to be disposed on the inner side of the shoe, to protect the shoe from unusual wear, and to protect the foot of the wearer; the device being particularly adopted to pro tect the upper edge of the shoe; to facilitate the putting on and taking oi? oi? the shoe, to prevent chafing, and to protect the stockings of the wearer.
Another object is to provide a device oi? this character which will he maintained in position by the loot ot' the wearer when applied to the shoe.
The further advantages of this device are, that the same can he instantaneeusly attached. or removed, of if preferred, may he secured permanently in position by nailing; to the shoe sole, that the device does not require alteration of the shoe, and that the device adords protection both to the shoe and to the foot oi the wearer.
My improved shoe shield, consists of a plate of celluloid material, and a. strip oi aluiilinuin sheet metal secured thereto and adapted to he positioned against the inner side of the shoe; the plate having; its upper edge turned to e tend over the upper edge of the shoe, and the metal strip having a toothed upper edge to engage with the shoe to prevent displaceu'ient when the shoe is applied to and removed trom the foot of the wearer.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved shoe shield. Fig.5. 9; is side elevation of the device. F 3 is a top plan view of the device. 4-
I?) is a fragmentary and sectional view of a shoe, showing the shield applied thereto. Fig. 5 is a. plan of the celluloid blank before folding: and shapingr the same. Fig. 6 is a rear elevation oi? the device, showing the same before bending the inner tip.
Referring to the drawings, the main portion 10, consists of a plate formed from celluloid material, and has the inner tip 11,
adapted to extend over the inner heel. portion 12, oi a shoe 13. The upper edge 14%, of
1a, adapted to extend over the upper edge 16, of the shoe. A strip 1'7, of aluminum sheet metal, is securedv to the plate 10, and. both the strip 17 and plate 10, are aiilapted to be disposed on the inner side of the shoe. The upper end 18, of strip 1?, is provided with teeth 19, adapted to press into the inner side of the shoe, thereby preventing the device from being displaced when the shoe is applied to or ren'ioved from the foot of the wearer. The eyelets 20, serve to hold the strip 17 and piste 10, together. If desired to secure the device permanently in position, a. nail (not shown) may be inserted in the eyelet in the inner tip 11, and driven into the shoe sole.
This device, as illustrated and described, serves to eili I-..ientl v protect the shoe, to iacilh tai'e the manipulation of the shoe relative to the foot of the wearer, to keep the feet dry, and to prevent the real cause oi illness-cold or damp feet.
W hat is claimed is:
1. it. shoe shield, comprising a plate oi celluhiid material having a portion arranged to extend within a shoe, a strip of aluminum metal secured thereto and to the portion thereof ei-zten-ding within the shoe, and a. flange portion on said plate adapted to extend over the upper edge of a shoe.
2. A. shoe shield, comprising a plate of colluloid material to be positioned against the inner side (it a shoe, an inner tip portion in" tegral therewith, and a metallic strip reinforcing the plate and. tip.
3. A shoe shield, coinprisin it plz to of colluloid material to be positioned against the inner side oi? the shoe, a flange POl'idOl]. adapt ed to extend. over the upper edge oi the shoe, an inner tip portion adapted to extend lie-- neath the foot of the wearer, and a metallic strip reinforcing the plate and tip.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto allix my signature.
