COMBINED FULL-DRESS SHIRT AND VEST.

Application filed January 12, 1928.

This invention relates to a combined full dress shirt and vest, and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a combined shirt and vest of the character stated, which is dressy and attractive in up marance, and which may be quickly put on or taken oil, and having its parts and features so arranged and assembled. that the bosom of the shirt cannot work up andv protrude outwardly from the body of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is to PM ide a garment of the character stated having the vest portion thereof permanently attachetl to the bosom piece of the shirt body and with the outer edges of the vest portion detached from the shirt body, so that suspender straps may pass over the shoulders of the person wearing the garment and may lie upon the outer surface of the shirt body and beneath the inner surface of the yest portion whereby the said suspender straps are concealed from view.

A further object of the invention is to provide a. vest portion of unique design and arrangement of lapels and a front piece having a pleat extending from the lower ends of the lapels to the springs of the peaks and buttons applied to the said pleated portion to give the vest the appearance of having overlapping edges held together by buttons and button holes.

As illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the combined full dress shirt and vest comprises a shirt body 1 which opens at the back as indicated at 2 in Figure 2, there being abutton and buttonhole 3 provided for holding the back in closed position when the shirt is upon the body of a wearer. The shirt body 1 is provided at its front side with a bosom piece 3. The front side of the shirt is closed and the bosom piece may carry a Serial No. 246,209.

The vest portion consists of a single piece of material 5 provided along its vertical center with a pleat 6 extending from the lower ends of lapcls 7 to the upper ends of peaks 8 which are provided at the lower edge of the piece The piece is sewed at its inner edges to the bosom piece 3 of the shirt along the stitched lines 9. The lapels may be of the same nniterial as the piece or they may be separate pieces joined with the piece 0 along the said stitched lines 9. The iapeis 7 normally lie upon the exterior surface of the intermediate portion of the piece a, and the upper ends of the lapels are tem 'iorarily secured to the piece 5 means of buttons 10 located at the shoulder portions of the shirt body. The piece 5 may have the usual pocket openings 11.

The upper edges of the piece 5 forming the vest proper are stitched to the usual shoulder stitchings of the shirt body 1, as indicated by the dotted lines 10 The outer side edges 12 of the piece 5 are not attached to the body of the shirt and the said side edges are provided with straps 13 adapted to pass around the back of the wearer and which may be secured together by a buckle 14 carried by one of the said straps in a usual manner, so that the vest portion of the garment may be held snugly upon the front of the body of the wearer. \Vhen the coinbined dress shirt and, vest is being worn, the suspender straps 15 which are attached to the trousers of the wearer may pass over the shoulders in a usual manner and lie upon the outer surface of the body portion 1 of the shirt and under the side portions of the piece 5 so that the said suspendm' straps are concealed from view.

lVhen it is desired to remove the shirt or to cast off the suspender straps. the straps 13 are disconnected from each other and the outer edge portions of the piece 5 are swung away from the body and consequently, the suspender straps are uncovered and they may be cast off from the trousers in a usual manner. so that the shirt may be taken. off, if desired. I

The parts and features are so arranged that the shirt may be quickly slipped on or removed. the garment presents a dressy appearance When being worn and the yest and shift bosom are held in pic .ile the wearer is exercising vigorously as for in- .stance, during the execution of dancing, and,

consequently, the combined full dress shirt and vest may be used to advantage by those attending social functions or participating in stage or other dancing.

From the foregoing description of the construction of our improved garment, it will be seen that we have provided a simple, inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the objects of our invention and while we have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details .of construction may be resorted. to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

' Having described our invention, what we claim is: V

1. A combined full dress shirt and vest comprising a shirt body including a bosom .piece permanently closed along its median vertical dimension and continuous between the side edges and the upper and lower edges thereof, a vest portion consisting of a single piece of material having lapel portions and peak portions, the said vest piece having a pleat bridging the space between the lapel portions and the peak portions and extending from the lower ends of the lapels to the lower edge of the vest portion and lying upon a line between the peaks thereof, and the vest piece being stitched only to the bosom of the shirt body along the inner edges of the lapel portions and stitchedat its upper edges to the shoulders of the shirt body.

A combined full dress shirt and vest compris'iing a shirt body including a bosom piece permanently closed along its median Vertical dimension and continuous between the side edges and the upper and lower edges thereof, a vest portion consisting of a single tions having their ends spaced above the peaks, the vest piece being provided with a pleat extending from the lower ends .of the lapels to the peaks, the outer and upper edges of the lapel portions being disconnected from the intermediate portion of the vest piece, the vest piece being secured to the bosom. piece of the shirt along the inner edges of the lapels and to the shirt body at the shoulders thereof and securing devices detachably connecting the upper ends of the lapels with the vest piece and the body of the shirt at the shoulders t-hOIGU'f.

3. In a combined device of the class described, a complete full dress shirt body open only at the rear, including a bosom piece permanently closed along its median vertical dimension, a vest portion consisting of a single piece of washable material cut to provide low-cut lapel'portions and peak poia tions, said vest piece between the lower ends of the lapel portions and the lower ends of the peak portions being overlapped and stitched vertically in longitudinal alinement with the median dimension of said bosom piece to provide a permanent pleat bridging the space between said lapels and the peak portions, said vest piece being'stitched to the bosom piece only along the inner edges of said lapel. portions and at its upper edges lat rally to the shoulder portions of the shirt body, said lapel portions being free to be raised outwardly from the peak portions of the vest piece, bnttoning means between. the npper ends of said lapel port-ions and the upper ends of the ,pcakportions to retain said lapel portions flat against the peak portions when the garment is worn and adjustable body engaging means extending rearwardly from the lower ends of the peak portions to effect retention of the combined shirt and veston the body of the wearer.
