SUPPORT FOR GUTTER-HANGER CIRCLES.

The leading object of the present invention may be said to reside in the provision of a support for a gutter hanger circle in which the structure is simple, inexpensive to manufacture, attractive from a huilders and architccts viewpoint; and in the provision of a structure in which the gutter hanger circle has a maximum of adjustment vertically with respect to the support.

A further object is to provide a support for gutter hanger circles in which the base for the shank may be made in more than one piece so that scrap material may be employed in the structure, and in which the said parts may be interlocked with respect to one another in nested relation.

with these. and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.

The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will he more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrunicntalitics as herein shown and described.

Referring to the drawings in detail, ref crence numeral 1 designates a two-part structure forming a base made up of thin plates of which one is designated 2 and the other 3. Each of these plates vertically aportured as at 4 for the passage therethrough of means for the securing of the plates 2 and 3 to a building. The plates 2 and 3, as shown in Fig. l, are each bent Serial No. 315,183.

in substantially right angled fashion to provide a forwardly projecting two-part flange. These plates have nested relation with one another, see Fig. 4, and are secured with respect to the stem or shank 5 by means of a horizontally disposed rivet 6. The stem or shank 5 is of channel iron construction and one head 7 of the rivet is flattened or pressed out so as to lie substantially flush with the inner face of the stem or shank 5, see Fig, 4. The object of having this head so flattened is to permit maximum vertical adjustment of the gutter hanger circle 8. In this connection it is to be noted that the stem or shank 5 is provided with the conventional openings 9 to accommodate the securing bolts and nuts 10 for securing the gutter hanger circle in place.

Regarding the structure of the plates 2 and 3 of the base 1, it is to be noted that by making the parts in two pieces scrap or waste material may be employed since' short sections of sheet metal may be employed. The support of the invention may be readily stamped to desired configuration in which the lip 11 of the plate 2 nests with the recess 12 of plate 8. In the connection it may be stated that this nested or interlocked position of parts riveted to the stem or shank provides a highly ei'licient securing means readily produced and one which will not work loose or break.

I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to, indicate the scope of the invention.

\Vhat I claim is:

l. A support for a gutter hanger circle comprising a two-part base made up of a pair of thin, flat plates the adjacent ends of which are bent over at right angles with respect to one another and extended outwardly in nested, interlocked relation to form a flange having a flatface for shank attachment, said flange being apertured, a shank of channel iron the flat face of which abuts against the flat face of said flange, a rivet passsing through said flange and. shank and having one of its heads pressed close to the inner face'of said channel iron, a gutter hanger circle shaped and proportioned for vertical adjustment through the channel of said shank, and means for securing said circle in adjusted position.

2. A support for a gutter hanger circle comprising a two-part base made up of a pair of thin, fiat plates the adjacent ends of which are oent over at right angles With respect to one another and extended outwardly in nested, interlocked relation to IEOlHl a flange having a flat face for shank attachment, said flange being apertured, a shank of channel iron the flat face of Which abuts against the fiat face of said flange, a rivet passing through said flange and shank and having one of its heads pressed close to the inner face of said channel iron to provide an open channel for maximum vertical adjustment of a gutter hanger circle, a gut ter hanger circle shaped and proportioned for vertical adjustment through the channel of said shank, and means for securing said circle in adjusted position.

3. A support for a gutter hanger circle comprising a two-part base made up of a pair of thin, flat plates the adjacent ends or which are bent over at right angles With respect to one another and extended out Wardly in nested, interlocked relation to form a flange having a fiat face for shank attachment, said flange being apertured, one of said bent over parts being in the form of a recess and theother in the form of a lug, a shank of channel iron the fiat face or" Which abuts against the flat face of said flange, a rivet passing through said flange and shank and having one of its heads pressed close to the inner face of said channel iron, a gutter hanger circle shaped and proportioned for vertical adjustment through the channel of said shank, and means for securing said circle in adjusted position.
