ASH-TRAY HOLDER.

Application filed March 19, 1923. Serial no. 262,923.

This invention relates to an improved ash tray holder and more particularly to an improvedspring clamp mounting whereby an ash tra or the like may be conveniently mounte in a horizontal position upon a vertical post or upright.

It is an object of this inventionto provide an improved ash tray; and holder therefor adapted to be conveniently clamped upon a vertical upright and having means forholding and" bracing an ash t'ra or similar receptacle in a substantially orizontal position. It is also an object of this invention to provide an ash tray receptacle or the like with a supporting bracket having secured thereto a spring clamp mechanism adapted to be applied to supportingposts of different diameters.

It is an important object of this invention to provide an improved supporting means for an ash tray or similar receptacle, said supporting means embracing a spring clamp having a slotted latch member pivotally engaged on thespring clamp and adapted to be positioned to permit a corrugated arm of the clamp to be adjustably engaged there-- through to hold the clamp tightly engaged around an upright support against which the lower end of the supportin bracket is adapted to engage to brace and hold the receptacle in a substantially horizontal position at all times.

Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.

This invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

The reference numeral 1 indicates an up-- 4 right post forming a part of abed, a table, or any other article upon which it may be desired to clamp an improved ash tray of the. type hereinaftendescribed. The improved ash tray and holder comprises a v clamp member eonsisting'of arms 2 and 3 integrally "connected by'a bi htjportion 4: to form a spring connection or the clamp arms. The arms 2'a11d 3 are shaped to afsame to clamp. against the,post l as-illustrated in Figure 1. Hinged or pivotally mounted at .5 on the outer end of the resilient clamping arm 2 is a latch plate or draw buckle 6 having a group of parallel slots 7 formed transversely therein as clearly illustrated in Figure :4.

The latch plate or draw buckle 6 is adapted to be swung from the dotted line position of, FigureIl into the full line position of said figure to permit the grooved or corrugated end 8 of the resilient clamp arm 3 to be en aged through one of the latch slots 7. there y resiliently holding the clamp tightly against the surface of the upri ht 1. The pivoted latch plate or draw buc kle may be engaged in any one of the eorrugations of the latching end 8 of the clamp arm 3 to draw the clamp arms together to properly hold the ash tray in a predetermined position". In order to prevent the clamping member or bracket from having sliding movement on the support or post 1 the inner faces of the clamp arms 2 and 3 may be lined with felt or other suitable materials to obviate slippage.

It will be noted that the improved ash tray and the supporting clamp therefor may be readily engaged on a bed post, upon the leg of a table, or upon any suitable piece of furniture or on a wall support to hold the ash tray or receptacle in a convenient posi tion for use. The improved supporting clamp forming a part of the ash tray supporting mechanism may be conveniently engaged upon an upright support and by means. of the draw buckle or apertured latch plate, the arms of the clamping device may be drawn together to securely clamp the ash tray holder; in place. By providing the draw buckle or latch plate 6 with a plurality of parallel slots 7 the corrugated spring end 8 of the clamping arm 3 may be engaged in any one of said slots depending upon the thickness. or the diameter of the upright supporting member upon which the clamping device is to be engaged.

. It will of course be understood that many changes may be. made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from theprinciples ofthis invention, and it is therefore not purposed limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the Scope of the appended claims.

' I claim as my invention:

1. An ash tray device comprising a connecting bar, a -spring clamp rigidly secured on one end thereof adapted to be engaged on a support, a spring foot engaged on the other end of said bar adapted to seat against the support to hold the bar in spaced paral support position.
