W. R. EBERT ADJUSTABLE RACK Filed Nov. 16, 1923 v vwenkoz' wgrizl'b eri Patented June 16, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER R. EBERT, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ADJUSTABLE RACK COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
ADJUSTABLE RACK.
Application filed November 16, 1923. Serial No. 675,190.
To all 'whomit may concern:
Be it known that LfVVALTER R. Ennn'r, a citizen of the United States, I residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Rack, of. which the following is a specification.
Theobject of my invention is to provide an improved rack for holding pamphlets,
sheets or the like; to provide adjustable arms and an adjustable bottom support; to provide means for firmly securing the entire holder-infplace on the background to which it is fastened; and to provide means for locking the holder arms in the desired'adjusted position so that they cannot wobble;
and to provide a device which is readily adjusted and which can be manufactured at small cost. I attain theseand' other objects of my invention by the mechanism illus-f trated in the accompanying drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention;
Fig. 2 is'a rear elevation of same;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3 3. of Fig. 1;
Fi 4: is a horizontal section on line 4+4 of Fig. 1; and j Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the holder with the slides removed.
Like numerals designate like parts in each of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Iprovide a T-shaped back 1, having an L- shaped top horizontal flange 2 and opposite L-shaped horizontal lower flanges 4, thus providing opposite channels 3 and 5, as shown in Fig. 5, in which channels are slidably mounted the laterally slidable sheet retaining arms '12 of the shape shown in the drawings. On the vertical portion of the T-shaped backing I provide vertical L- shaped flanged edges '6, thus forming opposite vertical channels 7 in which is slid ably mounted the vertically slidable bottom sheet supporting arm 10. Arm 10 is provided with a longitudinal slot 11, through In operation, the device is adjusted as in- I cheated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the respective elements are locked in the desired adjusted position by tightening screws l t'which engage in backing 1. The backing 1 is rigidly anchored to its means of support or back ground by three screws insertedat 9' in backing 1, as will be apparent by referring to Fig. 5. Thus, a triangular leverage or anchoring is obtained which prevents the entire holder from wobbling on the background towhich it is fastened. The holder can be set to any desired position and locked by simply tightening the tension of the three screws 14 which engage the respective arms l2 and 10.
lVhat I claim is:
An adjustable rack comprising a base having arms and a leg, the arms being provided with opposite horizontal guide flanges, and the leg being provided with opposite vertical guide flanges, all of the flanges lying on the same side of said base; a sheet supporting arm slidably mounted between the vertical flanges of the leg of the base, said sheet supporting arm carrying means for holding an article and means for locking the arm in adjusted vertical position; and laterally extending sheet retaining arms slidably mounted in the horizontal flanges, said sheet retaining arms carrying means for retaining said article and means for locking said arms in adjusted horizontal position.
WALTER- R. EBER-T.
