HEATING DEVICE FOR $HOE-FINISHING MACHINES.

This invention relates generally to shoe machinery, and has more particular reference to a novel heated shoe finishing machine.
The invention has for an object the provision of a novel heated shoe finishing machine, which will act to efficiently spread wax, or the like, where necessary to finish the bottom of shoes. The invention contemplates the' provision of an electrical heating unit operable 1n connection with cer tain brush, or canvas wheels in customary shoe finishing machines. This electrical heating unit is preferably placed within a which can be manufactured and sold at reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. 7

The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a shoe finishing machine bench having legs 12. An electric motor 13 is shown secured to one of the legs 12, and belt 1st connects the motor to a pulley 15 on a shaft 16 rotatably supported on the bench 10 by the standards 16. The shaft 16 has a wheel 17, a brush or-canvas wheel 18 and some other kind of a finishing wheel 19 mounted thereon. It should be clearly understood that the invention is not limited to any specific kind or type of wheel, but may be applied to any wheel as seen fit. Y

T1118. bracket is of hollow construction, viz, cons sting ofbase 20 and vertical sides 20, leaving a hollow central portion 20 The lower end of a rod 21 extends into the hollow 20 and is pivotally secured by a pin 22 supported in certain of the vertical sides 20 The upper end of the rod is bent, as at 23 and provided with a flange 24 secured to an asbestos wheel guard 25. 26 is secured within the wheel guard 25, leads 27 connect therewith. The rod 21 may be swung backwards to a position indicated by dot-dashlines 28, so that the guard is quite a distance from wheel 18, and does not direct heat thereagainst.

A heating unit closes a straight rod 21 slidable in an aperture 29 in a standard 30 secured to the bench 10. A screw 31 threadedly engages in the standard 3 O and abuts rod 21;" so as to lock the rod in adjustedpositions.
The modification illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 discloses a heat unit wheel guard 25 formed on its inner side with a dove-tailed groove 32 and a heat unit 33 is provided with a dove-tailed tongue 34 slidably engaged in the groove 32. The heat unit 33 may be slid to various positions along the inner face of the guard, as desired, and fastened against displacement by set screws 35 which are threadedly engaged in the guard.
-While I have illustrated and described the preferred form, construction, and arrange ment of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the right and privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United 1 States Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an electric heating unit adapted to fit within a wheel guard, of a wheel guard formed on its inner side with a dove-tailed groove, a dove-tailed tongue formed on the said heating unit andengaged in the said groove for sliding to various positions, and arranged for being secured in any of the positions so as to adj ustably mount the heating unit;
2. In a device of the class described, the combination With an electric heating unit adapted to fit Within a Wheel guard, of a Wheel guard formed on its inner side With a groove,
a tongue formed on the said heating unit and engaged in the said groove for sliding to various positions, and arranged for being secured in any of the positions so as to adjustably mount the heating unit.
3. In a deviCe of the class described, a holloW bracket, a rod pivotally connected at its lower end therein, a Wheel guard secured to therod and formed on its inner side With a dove-tailed groove, a dove-tailed tongue formed on a heating unit and engaged in the said groove for sliding to various positions, and arranged for being secured in any of the positions so as to adj ustably mount the heating unit.
4. In a device of the class described, a holloW bracket,a rod pivotally connected at its the rod and formed With a dovetailed groove, a dove-tailed tongue formed on a heating unit and engaged in the said groove for sliding to various positions, and arranged for being secured in any of the positions so as to adjustably mount the heating unit.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination With a heating unit adapted to fit \vithin'a Wheel guard, of a Wheel guard formed on its inner side With a dove-tailed groove, a dove-tailed tongue formed on the said heating unit, and engaged in said groove, so as to be slidable to various positions to adjust the position of the heating unit, and means for securing the said tongue against displacement in any of the positions, as a means for adjustably mounting the heating unit.
7. In a device oi the class described, the combination With a heating unit adapted to fit Within a Wheel guard, of a Wheel guard formed on its inner side With a dove-tailed groove, a clove-tailed tongue formed on the said heating unit, and engaged in said groove, so as to be slidable to various positions to adjust the position of the heating unit, and n'ieans for securing the said tongue against displacement in any of the positions, consisting of set screws threadedly engaged in the guard and abuttin the heating member, as a means for adjustably mounting the heating unit.
