VENDING CASE.
Application filed October 13, 1926. Serial No. 141,283;
This invention relates to improvements in vending cases, particularly glass cases for vending chewing gum mints, etc.
An object of the invention is to provide a case of this type that may be shipped in a knock down condition and which takes up a minimum of space when in such a condition.
Another object of the invention is to provide a case of this type that can be assembled by the most inexperienced store keeper or user.
Another obiect of the invention is to provide a substantially all glass, self serving vending case to accomplish the above objects.
Another object of the invention is to provide a vending case to accomplish the above 7 objects that is simple of construction and economical to manufacture.
These and other objects are obtained by th means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the vending case. parts being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
This invention comprises a pair of spaced side frames and 11 spacedly secured by bars 12 and 13. The frames 10 and 11 are identical wherefore a description of one will suffice. The frame 11 comprises top and bottom members 14 and 15 and rear and front members 16 and 17. The top member 14 is provided with a slot or groove 18 in horizon tal alignment with a slot or groove 19 formed in the spacing bar 12. The rear and front members 16 and 17 are provided with grooves 20 and 21 in alignment, the axis of which grooves 20 and 21 is oblique to the horizontal axis of the groove 18 formed in the upper member 14. Groove 20 extends entirely across the inner surface of the rear member 16 while the groove 21 stops short of the forward edge of the front member 17, see Fig. 2. The groove 20 is provided with a step 22 whereby an abutment 23 is provided. The front member 17 is also provided with grooves 24 which extend across the inner surface of the front member 17 but at an angle to the groove 21.
Each of the frames 10 and 11 are provided with panels 25 which are received in notches 26 formed longitudinally of the rear and forward members 16 and 17 of the frames. A
Any suitable means such as nails, screws, or the like 30 may be employed for securing the spacing bars 12 and 13 to the sides 10 and 11. The securing means 3O extendsthroughtlie frames10 and 11 into the bars 12 and 13.
After the sides and bars have been secured as above described the groove 18 formed in the sides 10 and 11 and the groove 19 formed in the spacing bar 12 are in alignment and receive therein a suitable glass panel 31 p which forms the top of the vending case. It
should also be notcd'that with the case assembled in this position the inclined grooves 20, 21 and 24 are in alignment, and grooves 20 and 21 are adapted to receive a glass panel 32 which forms one of. a plurality of shelves within the case. The aligned. grooves 24 receive a glass panel 33 which forms an abut ment or stop at the forward end of the case and prevents the goods positioned on the inclined shelves 22 from sliding forwardly out of the case. 7
One of the sides. for example 10, is provided with threaded sleeves 34 at the opposite ends of the forward member 17. The forward member 17 of the side 11 is provided with suitable perforations or bores 35 through which extend suitable sleeves 36. the sleeves 36 has secured thereto a rod 37 the forward end 38 of which is threaded and received in the threaded sleeves 34 carried by the side 10. The forward members 17 of Each of the sides 10 and 11 are drawn toward one an-.
other by the tie mechanism 34, 36 and 37 above described, for securing the top 31, shelves 32, and stop walls 33 in position.
The case is shipped in a knock down condition with the sides 10 and 11 assembled with the glass panel 25. From the drawings it must be evident that the vending case may be easily assembled. It should be noted that the front and back of the case are open wherefore access may be had to the interior of the case from either the back or the front of the case. It should also be noted'that the shoulder 23 formed on the rear member 16 0f the frames prevents the shelves 352 from being inadvertently displaced. Attention is. also called to the rounded or bulbed ends 39 formed on the shelves 32 and retaining walls 38 whereby injury to users of the vending case is effectively prevented and whereby an artistic effect is added to the case.
What is claimed isv 1. In a knockdown semi-frameless vending case the combination of a pair of frames, upper and lower spacing bars secured to the rear sides of the frames at the opposite ends thereof, panels carried by the frames and forming the sides of a case, the frames being provided with longitudinal grooves in alignment with a longitudinal groove formed in the upper spacing bar, a panel received in the grooves and forming the top of the case, the frames also being provided with aligned inclined grooves, panels received in the inclined grooves forming shelves in the case, a threaded sleeve carried by one of the frames, and a. rod extending through the other frame and received in the threaded'sleeve for clamping the shelves and top intermediate the sides.
2. In a knock down semi-frameless vending casethe combination of a pair'of assembled side frames, spacing bars adapted to-be secured to the rear end of the side frames, each of the side frames being provided with grooves which grooves will be in alignment when the case is assembled, means receivable in the grooves for forming shelves in the case, and compression means to be mounted in the free ends of the case for drawing the members each having a pair of spaced up-' rights, one of the uprights on each member having vertically spaced inclined slots, the other upright ofeach member having notches and slots diverging therefrom, glass shelves each having a bulbed edge, the ends of said edge seating .in the notches in the uprights and other bulbed edged glass panels each disposed at an angle to a shelf andv having their ends received in the grooves and an edge resting upon the shelf interiorly of the bulbed edge on the shelf.
4. A semi-frameless vending case compris ing a pair of rear uprights and a pair of front uprights, the rear uprights having opposed inclined. slots therein, the forward pair of uprights having a pair of opposed notches and slots communicating therewith, a glass shelf having a bulbed front edge, the ends of which are received in the notches in the front pair of uprights and the rear edges of which shelf are received in the slots in the rear uprights, and a front panel having an upper exposed bulbed edge and having its opposite edge resting on the glass shelf immediately adjacent the bulbed edge of theshelf, said panel being removably retained in position in the grooves in the front uprights.
In testimony whereof, I, have hereunto subscribed by name this 29 day of September,
GILBERT II. DAUGI-IERTY.
