ELECTRIC PLUG.
Application filed February 7, 1827. Serial No. 166,423.
This invention relates to a connector plug particularly adaptable for mounting light bulbs. g
The chief object of the invention is to simplify the present type of connector plugs and eliminate several of the parts heretofore employed by arranging the parts of'the solid path connector plug such that they serve for the same purpose as other parts heretofore have served.
The full nature ofthe invention will be 7 understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a central sectional view through the metal shell and associated parts, the insulation body being shown in elevation. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1 in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the insulation body with a portion shownin half section to show other parts in detail.
Fig. 1 is a transverse section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1 and in the direction of the arrows.
In the drawings there is illustrated an insulation body- 10 having formed integral therewith or suitably secured thereto a peripherally enveloping collar or flange 11.. Herein said body and flange collar are cylindrical but need not necessarily be so formed. Extending longitudinally through the body are a pair of bores 12 and rigidly mounted in each is a terminal member 13 having an enlarged exposed contact head 14 iand a longitudinally recessed opposite end 15. The plug body is suitably recessed as at 16 and the terminal member 18 is provided with a transverse threaded opening 17 in alignment with the opening 16. Then the contact terminal is seated in its bore 12 a screw 18 is adapted to rigidlyclamp theend of the wire 19 in the aperture 15 of the terminal. The end 19 is a part of the lead-in wire having suitable insulation 20. The resultant construction, therefore, is that each of the tera flared enlargement 22 and a cylindrical extension 23 thereof is threaded and associated therewith is a threadedextension 2 1 of a rear shell or retainer having a reduced shoulder portion 25 and a tubular extension 26 continuing therefrom. A coil spring 27 has one end engageable upon the contracted portion .25 of the rear shell and bears upon the collar 11 for normally -maintaining the plug body in the-projected position, reference be- 1 ing had to the open end of the forward shell. Outward movement of the plugbodyis limited by the collar 11 engagingthe annular shoulder 22 of the forward shell.
To prevent relative rotative movement between theplug body and the shell to insure accurate predetermined positioning of the terminal contacts 14, the plug body is provided with one or more longitudinally extending grooves 28 and the shell supports a pin 29, and said pin is seatable in said groove,
thereby permitting longitudinal relative movement between the shell and the plug Pin 29 is shown extending outwardly from 'body, but preventing rotative movement.
the shell as at 30 and positioned oppositely V 1. A plug connector including a cylindrical insulation body, a cylindrical shell-slid ably supporting the, same, yielding means normally tending to project the body from the shell, cooperatingmeans on the shell and body limiting such movement, a contact having an exposed end and movable with and carried by the body, and a pin and slot connection preventing relative rotative movement between the body and shell, the pin of said connection projecting laterally of the shell for bayonet connection and shell an- Y chorage;
2. A device as defined by claim 1, characterized by the opposite end of the contact terininating short of the opposite end of the 2 V v V 1,715,866-
body, a lead in wire connected to the oppobody at one end and terminating short theresite end of the contact, and a single member of at the opposite end whereby the insulasimultaneously maintaining rigid connection tion body normally is fully projected. 1o thcrebetween and securely anchoring both In'Wit-ness WhereofiIhave hereuntoafiixed 5 contact and lead in Wire to said'body. my signature.
3. A device asdefined by claim 1, charac-, 1 c terized by the shell projecting beyond the SAMUEL W. HYATT.
