This invention relates to a switch plate or receptacle for a switch adapted to 're'ceive a plug.
More particularly this invention relates to a duplex receptacle switch adapted to receive two switch plugs.
The general object of my invention is to provide a glass switch plate adapted for a duplex receptacle switch and having a structure which is adapted to receive a fastening screw for holding the plate in position and without engaging the fastening screw with the material of the glass plate.
The invention furthermore has for its object to provide a glass switch plate having a duplex bushing adapted to be coordinated with a duplex receptacle switch and having a cross member at a medial portion of the bushing formed with a. screw hole to take the fastening screw which engages directly with the duplex receptacle switch, therebycarrying out the first stated object of avoiding engagement of the fastening screw directly with the material of-the glass switch. plate.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are mere ly illustrative of one example of theinvention.

In the illustrated example of my invention the numeral 10 designates a known formof duplex receptacle for plugs, and the numeral 11 indicates the receptacle units of said switch. As the switch is of known form no further description needs to be glven.
The numeral 12 indicates a glass switch plate forming part of my present invention, and the numeral 13 the bushing in the opening provided in said glass plate, while the numeral 14- indicates a packing element held in position by members 19 the bushing being bent thereover. v
As seen best in Figure 8, glass switch plate 12 is formed with anopening having an end portion 15 for almost a complete circle, said end portions being connected by a large slot or complementary open portion 16. The openlng receives the switch units 11.
The bushing designated generally by the numeral 13 has a transverse bridge piece 18 between two circular openings 17 registering plate 12. At opposite sides of the bushing 13 there are formed bent members-19 rearwardly directed from the face of .the bushing and which arebent over the packing element 14.
In Figure 4: at the right and in Figure 5 I have shown the members 19. I have shown said members before being bentover the with the end open portions 15 in the glass are adapted to constitute stops limiting the movement of the bushing and the switch plate 12 on to the switch or duplex receptacle 10, the intervening or packing element 14 forming the member contacting with switch or receptacle 10 when the switch and plate with its bushing are assembled. w
The bridge or crossbar 18 of the bushing is formed with a hole-"21 (Figure 4) for receiving a fastening screw 22. -The' usual duplex switch or receptacle 10 has a screw-hole I on the transverse medial line thereof, and the I screw 22 passes through the hole 21 of bridge or crossbar 10 and into the usual screw hole of switch 10. i
The cutaway portionlG of the switch plate 12 accommodates the formation of the bridge 18 while the latter and bushing 13 generally conform to the openings 15, 16 in the switch plate in Figure 3. The bushing adds to the esthetic appearance of the switch or receptaclclO and esthetic features are further promoted by the character of the glass switch plate 12 which in practice is H111- rored.
It is to be noted that screw 22, which serves I to firmly unite the bushing and plate to the switch 10 does not engage the glass switch plate 12, the connection being between the cross bar of the bushing 12 and the switch 10.
Breakage is thus avoided and ample material is available for the engagement of the screw 22. I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention I do notl-i'mit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit or" the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A switch plate formed of glass and hav ing an opening the end portions of which are rounded, the defining edges approaching complete circles, said plate having a space complete circles; said" plate havinga space be- "tween and complementary to said rounded end-portions, and a bushing having end portions confomnin'g approximately to said end portions of the opening in' the glass plate, and having a bridge, membersof which are'accommodat-ed in saidcomplementary space of said switch plate, togetherwith-flanges on said bushing at diametrically opposite sides, andllips on said bridge and on thebushing :at the portions diametrically opposite said bridge. v
- 3. A rlass*switchrplate having an opening, the end portions of which have a round defining edge approachinga complete circle, and :a central opening connecting and complementary to the roundportions, and a bushingin said opening, the=end portions of the bushing presenting round openings, and an intermediate portion of the bushing having a transverse bridge, said openings in said switch plateand in said bushing adapted to accommodate the units of a duplex receptacle switch.
