EXTENSIBLE GRILLE.
Application led April 16, 1928. Serial No. 270,314.
rlhis invention relates to an extensible grille, and has for its object to prov1de a metallic grille of such construction that 1t may be readily applied to fill a part of the area between upright supports as a guard or barrier, and may be used to advantageupon screen doors or upon the frames of window screens.
It is well known that, on account of their' exposed position, the screens upon screen doors often become injured and detached or loosened from the frames. The grille to be described herein may be conveniently applied to screen doors of various widths and will adequately resist all stresses directed thereto and will prevent injury to the screen.
The new and useful features of the invention are fully described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that changes may be made in form, size, proportion of parts and minor details, said changes being within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a view in side ele vation of a part of a screen door and door frame, with the grille applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side view of an extensible supportingstrip. Fig. 3 is a view, partly in section, showing a part of one of the tubular, telescoping grille-supports.
Referring now to the drawing for a more particular description, the invention is shown and described in connection with a screen door frame d hinged to a door casing 5, and consists, in part, of a rectangular frame including a pair of side strips 6 which are secured at their ends to an upper extensible support 7, and to a lower extensible support 8.
Each support 7 and 8 consists of a metallic tube or sleeve 9 provided at its ends with secondary sleeves or tubes 10 adapted to have sliding movements in a tube 9 and each provided with a foot-piece 11 adapted to be secured to the frame of the screen door.
As thus described it will be seen that the grille may be readily mounted upon the door frames of various widths. The secondary or inner tubes 1() may be drawn outwardly from the tubes 9, the pairs of supporting- strips 16 and 17 being also drawn outwardly from the grille so that the foot- pieces 11 and 18 will engage the door frame t and may be secured thereto, the function discharged by the horizontal strips 16' and 17 being to support the web or grille betweenits top and bottom.
1t will be appreciated that the device consists of few and simple parts and therefore may be manufactured economically. Also on account of the construction as described the grille will be adequately supported and bending or buckling of the strands, which might be caused by shocks or undue pressure, will be adequately resisted.
I claim as my invention 1. A grille for door and window frames, comprising an open mesh panel portion, spaced apart supports on the panel portion for attachment to a frame, and independent reinforcing strips for attachment at one end to the fiame and adapted for intermeshing engagement at their other ends in said panel portion to steady the saine between said supports.
Q. A grille for door and Window frames, comprising spaced apart supporting bars,
spaced apart side strips attached to said bars and forming therewith a substantially rectangular frame, interwoven spaced apart strands of wire secured to said bars and to said side strips thereby forming an open mesh panel, said supporting bars extending beyond the side strips for attachment to a frame, and separate and independent reinforcing strips between said bars adapted to be secured at one end to the frame and to threadingly engage the mesh panel at their other ends thereby reinforcing and stabilizing the panel.
In testimony whereof, I have atlixed my signature.
MAURICE D. MICKLIN.
