UNITED STATES 1,715,004 PATENT OFFICE.
BAKUEL I. JOHNSON, O1 CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE SEINSHEIMER PAPER. COIPANY, OI CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
(imam-Banana covna.
Continuation of application Serial No. 148,282, filed October 21, 1928. This application filed December 10, 1927. Serial No. 239,227.
The invention relates to a pliable paper covering or envelope for commercial garment hangers, particularly of the rare typeto protect the garment from contact with the e commercial garment hanger to which the improvement is particularly applicable and largely used by dry cleaner establ shments, constitutes a length of wire bentmto a triangle with the ends of the wire twisted together and extended centrally of the tr1- angle and with one end terminating with a hook. The hanger usually has an enamel or galvanized coating of inferior guahty for low price merchandising, making its use hazardous for many classes of garments wh ch would be readily soiled by rust or coating stains.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an inexpensive pliable paper envelope or coverin for the hanger whlch can be readily slip e or placed over the hanger with its hoo extension exposed and extending through an opening in the envelope.
Another object of the invention 1s to provide a protective covering for clothes hangers of a suitable texture paper materlal formed into an envelope of the shape and contour of the hanger, 0 en at one end, for
inserting the hanger an provided with an opening for engaging an extended hook portion of the hanger t erethrough.
Further objects and advantages will be h more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawin s, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view 0 the envelope wlth the wire hanger enwrapped thereby shown 1n dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the reverse s1de of the envelope.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on lme 3--3, Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the envelope blank.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the commercial type of wire garment hanger shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 as enclosed or enwrapped inthe protector envelope 2. The hanger constitutes a length of wire bent so to the form of a trian le with the ends of the wire joining-at one 0? together, and extending therefrom and terminating in a hook.
The protector is in the form of an envelope its angles and twisted of the shape and contour of the hanger to completely enclose or enwrap the triangle portion of the hanger leaving the twisted hook extension ex osed and extending therefrom.
In the pre erred form of construction as illustrated the envelope is made from a single sheet of paper material blank to a determined pattern outline as illustrated in Figure 4 representing an intermediate section 3 forming one side of the envelope and a pair of opposing flap sections 4.--5 adapted to be. folded upon the intermediate section 3. along con ver oft e envelope.- The blank is notched at the intersection of the converging lines of fold 6-7 to rovide an opening 8 at one of the angles 0 the envelope or at the apex of the triangle. The flap section 5 is provided with a pasting flap 9 for securing the flap sections together and overlaps the corresponding edge of the flap section 4, the joining seam coming centrall of the envelope.
In its fol ed form the envelope comprises a fiat article of commerce, of triangle outline with the base line at its opposite ends curved and provided with an open base end for the full width of the envelope for ready insertion of the hanger with the hook extension of the hanger engaging through the opening 8 at the intersection of the converging lines ofthe fold, completely enclosing or enwrapping the triangle of the hanger, protecting the garment ung thereon.
The envelope is preferably made from a supple texture pa er sheet lazed on one side as a pliable coverlng material which will not crease, snag or wrinkle the most delicate dress goods sustained from the hanger.
The envelope aside from its garment prote ctive features may contain printed matter for. advertising or reading display of a merchant, and occupies a space preferably within the center of the single section side and within an area of the yoke s ace of the collar of the garment leaving suc portion exposed and free from contact with the garment so that the garment will not be soiled by ink stains. It is recognized that the envelope in so far as its pattern or blank outline is concerned articularly as to the location of the seam can e modified within the cones t of the invention. A seam can be made a ong one of the lines of the fold. In the particular pattern and outline disclosed, the envelope is of ng lines 6-7 to form the opposite side.
economical manufacture with a minimum waste in paper stock for blanking out and one which does not present complications for production manufacture.
This application-is a continuation of an application filed October 21, 1926, Serial No. 143,262 for garment hanger cover.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. A pliable covering for commercial clothes hangers, comprising a blank of supple texture paper material folded upon itself along converging lines into a triangular shaped fiat envelope having a full width open lower end adapt-ing the same to be slipped over the hanger and an opening at the intersection of the converging lines of the fold for a hook ejection of the hanger.
2. A pliable covering for commercial clothes hangers, comprising a triangular shaped fiat envelope of su ple texture paper material having a full wi th open lower end adapting the same to he slipped over the hanger and open at the apex for the ejection of the hook of the hanger.
3. A pliable covering for commercial clothes hangers, comprising a triangle shaped envelo e having -a full width open lower end a apting the same to be slipped over a hanger, the hanger having a hook extension, the hook extension engaged through an opening in the apex of the envelope, the envelope constitutin a blank having a section forming one side 0 the envelope, and flap sections folded upon said side section along converging lines upon said unit side section, the ends of said flap sections overlapping and adhesively secured together to form the opposite side of said envelope.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name.
SAMUEL J. JOHNSON.
