LAMP.
The invention relates to lamps and is particularly applicable to head lamps. One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple and compact device for adjusting the light bulb longitudinally and transversely of its axis. Another object is to provide an adjustingdevice, the parts of which [may be readily assembled or disassembled. Vith these as well as other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.

1 is the body of the lamp, 2 the reflector. 3 the light bulb and 4 the socket for the bulb. This socket is mounted upon the reflector so that it may be adjusted longitudinally and transversely of its axis to correspondingly adjust the bulb, and as shown, the mounting for the socket comprises the tubular member 5 rigidly secured at one end to the reflector and havingthe diametrically opposite longitudi'nally extending slots 6 with open rear .ends. The socket 4 is provided with pro ections 7' for engaging in these-slots and providing for swinging'of the socket at right angles to the line passing through the projections, the tubular member being made elliptical to provide thenecessary clearance'forv this swinging movement. Thesepro ectlons are also adapted to slide longitudinally in the slots to provide for adjustment of the socket longitudinally of its axis.
The device for adjusting the socket and consequently the light bulb longitudinally and transversely of its axis has the supportingyoke 8 which is provided'with the resilient arms 9 havingtheir ends embracing the tubular member 5 and covering the slots 6 therein. These ends are adapted to be detachably connected to the tubular member and as shown the end of each arm is formed with transverse recesseslO and the tubular member 5 is formed with the transverse struck out tongues 11 for engaging in the recesses. For normally holding the arms connected to the tubular member, I have provided the transverse tie member 12 which extends between the arms and through openings 13 therein and has hooks 14 at its ends for engaging the outer sides of the arms. 15 is a yoke having its base secured to the rear end of the socket 4 and having its arms 16 extending between the planes of the arms 9 of the supporting yoke 8, the two yokes extending at right angles to each other. i
For actuating the yoke 15 to adjust the socket longitudinally and transversely of its axis, I have provided the concentric inner and outer actuating members 17 and 18 respectively. The actuating member 18 vextends through the base of the supporting yoke 8 and is held from longitudinal movement by means of the clip 19 and the base of the supporting yoke embracing the collar 20 upon this actuating member. This actuating member has its front end threaded and engaged by the 'nut 21. The nut 21 has the ears 22 extending from its opposite sides and through openings 23 at the free ends of the arms 16. Theseears are preferably curved to be concentric with the projections 7 so that they will not interfere with the rocking of the socket and light bulb. The inner actuating member 17 extends through the outer actuating member and has rigidly secured to its front end the cam 24 which is located between the arms 16 and is engageable therewith to effect the rocking ofthe socket and light bulb. 25 a coil spring surrounding the front ends of the actuating members 17 and 18 and abutting the nut 21 and the cam 24 to resiliently hold this cam against the tie member 12 and consequently hold the tie member from accidental disengagement from thearms 9 of the supporting yoke. The arms 16 are preferably made resilient to provide for applying a or detaching these arms to or from the ears 22 of the nut 21. However, the strength of the arms is such that they do not flex upon engagement by the cam. The rear ends of the actuating members 17 and 18 are preferably slotted so that they may be readily rotated by means of a screw driver.'
The actuating members are in alignment with the opening 26 in the rear of the lamp body 1, this opening also being in alignment with the socket and light bulb. As shown,
the rear end of the outer actuating member 18 is substantially flush with the lamp body .1
but this is not essential as long the actuating members are 1n alignment with the opening in the lamp body,

gitudinally of its axis, a suitable tool is engaged wlth the notch in the member 18 tor rotating the same which will thread the nut 21 thereon and by reason of the connection between the nut and yoke15, axial adpistment of the socket will be effected. Transverse adjustment of the socket is accomplished by rotation of the actuating member 17 which will cause the cam 52% to operatively -will also be seen that the parts of this device may be readily assembled or disassembled owing principally to the fact that the arms of the yokes are resilient. t will furthermore be seen that the construction is such that certain of the parts such as the nut, the clip and the tie member may be readily formed of stamp-ings and that the other parts may also be cheaply manufactured.
What I claim asmy invention is:
1. In a lamp, the combination with a reflector, a light bulb Within said reflector and a socket for said bulb tulcrumed upon said reflector, ot' a. yoke upon said-socket having resilient apertured arms, concentric actuating members including a threaded member, a nut upon saidthreaded member and having ears at its opposite sidesfenagageable in the apertures in'said arms for adjusting said socket longitudinally of its axis upon rotation oi' said threaded member, and a cam upon the other of said members located between said arms and engageabletherewith to adj ust said socket transversely of its a TiS upon rotation of the member upon which it is mounted, the strength of said arms being suliicient to normally hold the same from flexing upon engagement by said cam, but permitting the manual disengagement of said arms from said ears. y
2. In a lamp, the combination with a re liector, a light bulb Within said reflector and a socket for said bulb fulcrumed upon said reflector, of a supporting yoke having arms detachably connected to said reflector, a tie member extending between said arms and detachably engageable therewith for holding the same connected to said reflector, a rotatable actuating member, means for rocking said socket upon rotation of said actuating member including a cam upon said actuating member, and a common means for normally holding said actuating member from longitudinal movement and said tie member from disengagen'ient from said arms.
3. In a lamp, the combination with a reflector, a tubular member upon said reflector, a light bulb within said reflector and a socket for said bulb fulcrumed upon said tubular member, of a supporting yoke having resilient apertured arms for detachably engaging said tubular member, a tie member extending through apertures in said arms and having hooks at its opposite ends for engaging said. arms to hold the same in engagement with said tubular member, a rotatable threaded actuating member, means cooperating with said supporting yoke to hold said actuating memoer from longitudinal movement relative to said supporting yoke, means for adjusting said socket longitudinally of its axis including a nut upon said actuating member and be tween said arms, a second actuating member concentric with said first mentioned actuating member including a cam for rockingsaid socket transversely of its axis, and a coil spring extendingbetween said nut and cam and resiliently holding said cam against said tie member to retain said tie member from accidental disengagement from saidarms.

In a lamp, the combination with a r flector, of a lightbulb Within said reflector and a socket in said-bulb fulcrumed upon said reflector, of a supporting yoke detachably mounted upon said reflector, a tie member detachably engaged with the arms of said yoke for holding said yoke upon said reflector, a rotatable actuating member extending through said yoke, resilient means for normally holding said actuating member against longitudinal movement and said tie member from disengagement from said arms, and means between said actuating member and socket for rocking said socket upon rotation of said actuating member.
7. In a lamp, the combination with, areflector, a light bulb within said reflector and a socket for said bulb fulcrumed upon said rcflector, of concentric actuating members including a threaded member, a nut upon said threaded member for adjusting said socket longitudinally of its axis upon rotation of said threaded member, a yoke upon said socket having arms connected to and movable 011 said nut, and a cam upon the other of said actuating members located between said arms and engageable therewith for moving said arms to adjust said socket transversely of its axis upon rotation of the actuating member upon which it is mounted.
