PHOTOGRAPHIC-PRINTING DEVICE.

' The present invent-ion relates to4 photographic printing appliances, and aims to provide a novel and improved photographic printing device adapted especially tor making photographic reproductions of bacterial colonies growing in culture mediums in Petri dishes, such as disclosed in my cepending application Serial No. 17 6,191 filed even date herewith, although the device may be used for making other photographic prints.-
Another object ot the invention is the provision of such a device embodying a holder for the sensitized card or sheet and Petri dish or other plate or sheet used as a negative, an electric lamp and means for concentrating the light rays on the Petri dish or negative. n
A further object is the provision of such a device having printingr and red electric lamps mounted in a novel manner so that either lamp may be conveniently removed, and the lamps used in various arrangements.
A still further obj ect of the invention is the provision ot a photographic printing device comprising a novel and convenient assembly ot the component elements.
lVit-h the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts, as'hereinafter described and claimed, it being uuderstood that changes can be made within the scope ety what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
rPhe invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein` Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved printing device.

A rectangular upright trame 7 is provided which is open at the front and also at the rear, although it may be closed at the rear if desired.
The holder tor the sensitized card or sheet and Petri dish or plate is disposed slidably on the bottom of the frame 7, and comprises a rectangular tray 8 slidable between the sides of the frame on the bottom thereof under cleats 9 carried by the sides of the frame to hold the tray on the bottom of said trame.
The card or sheet 10, which may be of the kind disclosed in said application Serial No. 176,191, is placed within the tray on the bottom thereof with its sensitized surface uppermost, and the Petri dish or plate 11 is placed in the tra-y over the card 10 and contains a tilm ot' cult-ure medium thereon in which are grown the bacterial colonies 19. ot a sample ot milk, water or other material used in bacterielogical investigation, although it will be understood that it the present device is used for oth-er photographic printing purposes, the Petri dish 11 may be substituted by the usual negative. A cover 13, which serves as a light shield also, is disposed within the tray, and is hinged,as at 14, to the rim ot the tray to swing upwardly for placing the card 10 and Petri dish 11 in and removing them Afrom the tray. rPhe cover 13 has a linger hold 15 which may be used for conveniently swinging said cover open, and the cover has an opening 1G through which the light may pass, said opening being of av size to provide the desired lield on the card 11 when the print is made. The tray may be readily slid from the trame 9 tor placing-the card 10 and Petri dish 11 in and removing them from the tray.
. The light'for rprinting is furnished by an electric lamp 17 which is engaged within and suspended from a lamp socket 18 secured to the lower surface of a. slide 19 disposed slidably between the sides of the frame orrcabinet 7. The sides et' the frame have plates 2O between which the slide 19 is movable, and said 'slide may be readily slid 'forwardly out ot the trame. Y
In order bo concentrate the light rays on the Petri dish 11 and card 10 through the opening 16, a cylinder' 21 surrounds the lamp 17 and is suspended t'rom hangers 22 secured to the lower surface of the slide 19. rThe upper and lower ends of the cylinder are open, and are spaced from the slide 19 and tray 8, respectively, for the upward flow of air through the cylinder to keep same cool and thereby avoid overheating, especially such as might be injurious to the bacterial growths on the Petri dish 11. The cylinder 21 is lo cated immediately above the opening 16 of the tray cover 13 so that the light rays from the lamp 17 are concentrated to the area bounded by the edge of the opening 16.
A double switch 23 of any suitable kin'd A Lio is carried by one side of the lrame7 at the exterior of the iframe, and wires24f extend from the socket 18 to the switch 23, for conncction with a source of electrical current (not shown), and the switch23 may be conveniently operated for rlighting Vand eXtinl guishing the lamp 17 Y Y p A small electric lamp 25 with a red bulb is disposed Y above the slidel 19, being secured within and suspended from a lamp socket 26 secured to thelowei' surface of an upper slide 27 that is movable under the top of the frame 7 in guide cleats 28 secured to said top of the frame. Flexible :wires 29 connect vthe socket 26 with the switch 23 so that the lamp 25 may be lighted and extinguished, the switch 23 f being adouble switch in order that each lamp may be controlled independently ot the other lainp.- r Y The electric lamps may be readily replaced by removing the slides 19 and 27 from the frame 7, and the printing lamp 17 may be of various candle powers. The removal of the slides containing the lamps is also of advantage for other purposes. Thus, the lamp 25 may be removed with the slide 27, and by inverting the lamp and slide the same may` be seated on top of the frame 7.0i1 at anyrother suitable point for convenience in placing the card 10 and Petri dish 111in'orremoving them from the tray when the tray has been removed lfrom the frame.
