[Class 98 (ii).] A self-contained unit for developing X-ray and other photographic films comprises a light-tight cabinet provided with the usual operating sleeves and having a dark chamber in which the various operations are carried out, storage chambers for cassettes and for hangers for the films, and drying chambers, and is provided with developing &c. tanks, a source of red light for working and an inspection window fitted with a white light. A heating unit may be fitted to the developing tank and a fan provided in the drying chamber. In the form shown the cabinet is divided into an upper part 6, Fig. 5, and a lower part 7 subdivided into a storage chamber 26, magazines for cassettes and film hangers, 27, 33, a compartment for boxes of film 37, a developing space 12 in which tanks 42 .. 45 are suspended and a drying chamber 13 having a fan 56. The upper part 6 forms the working space and is cut off from the compartments 26, 27, 33, 37 by sliding covers 28, 40. A drying chamber 14 is provided over the chamber 13. The tanks 42, 43, 44 are normally covered by a hinged plate 46 from which any water dripping from films being viewed drains into the washing tank 45. A window 16 is provided in the rear of the space 6 behind which is a source of white light, and red lamps 19 are provided for illuminating the interior of the cabinet. The developing tank 42 is fitted with a heating unit 49. The film hangers comprise an open frame 62, Fig. 13, of U-section having a flared lip 65 to facilitate insertion of the film and a pivoted arm 68 enabling the hanger to rest on the sides of the tanks. For automatic filling of the tanks, supply tanks 79, Fig. 19, communicating with them by flexible tubes 83 are mounted on platforms 80 so that they may be raised and lowered as required. A modified form for use with small films e.g. for dental X-ray work is described. In this form the magazine for unexposed and exposed films consists of a box having two rows of compartments to receive the films, each row being covered by a single lid.
