DISPENSING CARTON.

The invention relates to dispensing cartons or boxes, and more particularly to a box provided with a pouring spout.

Boxes of thls kind are particularly adapted for holding any dry, powdered or granular substance,'such as cereal foods, spices, soap powders or chips, and the like, which may be dispensed in small quantities, from time to time.

The object of the invention is to provide a carton or box having a pouring spout formed from one corner portion of the box and arranged to be easily moved into operative position, when it is desired to dispense a portion of the contents of the box, andto be replaced in closed position, to entirely enclose the contents when the box is not in use.

The box or carton 1, may be made of pasteboard or the like, constructed in any usual and well known manner, and ma be of any size, shape or proportion adapte to the material to be contained therein. A i

One face of the box, as indicated at 2, in the 40 drawing, is arranged to have the pouring spout formed integrally therewith. As best shown in Fig. 2, the triangular side 3 of this spout is formed from the corner of the face 2 of the box.

The wall or face 2 of the box has the angular flange portion 4 pasted or otherwise attached to the adjacent wall 5 of the box, this flange 4 terminating at the lower angle of the spout as shown at 7. p I

The spout has the inturned angular flap 8 formed integrally with the triangular portion 3 thereof and provided with a V-shaped notch 9 in its inner straight free edge.

adapted to be pasted or otherwise connected to the top wall 12 of the box.

When it is desired to use the spout to dis pense the contents of the box it is only necessary to pull the spout out into the position shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, engaging the V- shaped notch 9 with the edge of the slde wall 5, the tab 13, beyond this notchbeing hooked over the outer side of the wall 5.

In order to prevent any of the contents of the box or carton from being accidentally spilled in shipping, the entire box ay be covered with a thin paper covering 1 pasted or otherwise secured thereto. In order to use the spout to dispense the contents of the box, it is only necessary to cut through this thin paper wrapping along the dotted lines indicatedat 15 in Fig. 1, when the spout may be operated as above described.

Although the pouring spout is shown in one upper corner of the box, it should be understood that this spout may be placed in any.v

desired location upon any part of the box.

I claim:

1. A dispensing carton having a portion of one wall separable, an angular flap extending inward into the carton from the separable portion to form a pouring spout, the inner free edge of said 'flap being straight and there being a V-shaped notch in the inner straight edge forming a tab beyond the V-shaped notch, and the flap being adapted for removal from the interior of the carton so that the tab may be entirely removed from the carton and positioned over the adjacent wall of the carton by engaging the adjacent wall by the V-sha ed notch.

2. dispensing carton having a corner portion of one wall separable, an angular flap extending inward into the carton from the separable portion to formapouring spout, the inner free edge of said flap being straight and there being a V-shaped notch in the inner straight edge forming a tab beyond the V- shaped notoh, and the flap being adapted for removal from the interior of,the carton so that the tab may be entirely removed from the carton and positioned over the adjacent wall of the carton by engaging the adjacent wall by the V-shaped notch.

3. A dispensing carton'having a triangular portion of one wall separable, an angular flap extending inward into the carton from the separable portion to form a pouring spout, the inner free edge of said. flap being adapted for removal from the interior of the carton so that the tab may be entirely removed from the carton and positioned over the adjacent wall of the carton by engaging the adjacent wall bythe V-shaped notch.

4. A dispensin carton having a triangular corner ortion of one wall separable, an angular ap ex ending inward into the carton from the separable portion to form a pouring spout, the inner free edge of said flap being straight and there being a V- shaped notch in the inner straight edge forming a tab beyond the V-shaped notch, and the flap being adapted for removal from the interior of the carton so that the tab may be entirely removed from the carton and positioned over the adjacent wall of the carton by' engaging the adjacent wall by the V- shaped notch.
