Description

LILLIAN ROOSEVELT.
SEWI NG MACHINE THREAD GUARDS. N0.171,4Z 8. Patented Dec. 21, 1875.
BY ATTORNEYS.
".PETERS. PHOTOJLITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTONHD O UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LILLIAN ROOSEVELT, OF HEMPSTEAD, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWIN G-MACHINE THREAD-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,428. dated December 21, 1875 application filed July 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Mrs. LILLIAN ROOSE- VELT, of Hempstead, in the county of Waller and State of Texas, have invented a new and Im proved Thread-Guard for SeWingMachines, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a guard attachment to the Wheeler 85 Wilson sewing-machine for preventing the thread from being thrown 011' the tension by the work, and for preventing the thread from running off the spool onto the spindle, both of which are com mon occurrences in that machine.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the needlearm of the sewing-machine and my improved guard attachment, and Fig. 2 is a plan View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the needle-arm, and B its axis. 0 represents my guard for preventing the thread D from being thrown olf from the tension E, and F represents the guard for preventing the thread from running 0d the spool onto the spindle. These guards are both made part of a clamp, G, embracing the axis of the arm, and fastened by a screw, H.
The object of guard G is to prevent the Work from touching the thread when passing under the arm, and thus throwing off the thread, as it now does, and the object of guard F is to prevent the thread from running up over the top of the spool onto the spindle.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The guard attachment herein described, consisting of the clamp G, having the oppositely-extended arms 0 and F, as and for the purpose specified.
MRS. LILLIAN ROOSEVELT.
