IMPROVEMENT IN SLEEVE-BUTTONS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 71,254, dated December 21, 1875; application filed September 29, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE A. ALLEN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain Improvement in Sleeve-Buttons, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists in making adjustable double arms for sleeve-buttons, to accommodatethe matter, of putting in, holding, or taking out the same. I

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view with the arms extended together in preparation for putting through the cuff. Fig. 2 is the same view with the arms in position to hold the buttons inthe cuff.

The sleeve-button A is constructed with the arms B, with a shoulder, 2', on the outside, jointed to the shank 0. To the other end of these arms are jointed the arms 1), and these arms are jointed together at E.

Thus it will be seen that, when desirable to put these buttons in the cnif or other article for wear, the arms are thrown out at right angles with the face of the button, as seen in Fig. 1, and the two sides being nearly closed together, they are readily pushed through the eyelet in the cuff and when they are in pasition they are from the inside spread apart until the joint E is pressed by the line parallel with the face of the button, and closes against the end of the shank, as seen in Fig. 2.

The arms B are curved and made elastic in their centers, so that the outer ends will yield to the pressure in the closing of the arms D,

allowing them to pass the center, as above named; and this elasticity of arms B will hold the arms D in position when the button is worn or in use; but by the finger inside of -B, having the shoulders 13, and pivoted. to the shank G, in combination with the straight arms D, jointed at E, so thatwhen closed the arms D are drawn out of the horizontal line, and the joint E forced up against the shank, as and for the purpose set forth.
