SHEET-MATERIAL-SUPPORTING STRUCTURE.

This invention relates to improvements in sheet material supporting structure and 1s here shown as embodied in suchzstructure particularly applicable 'for supporting sectionsot' wallboard, or Asimilar thin sheet material :tor forming partitions, walls, ceilings, and the like.
One of the features of my invention is the provision oi'A a simple supporting,structure that may be adapted to a great variety of uses. My improved supporting structure is also easy and cheap tomanufacture and may be readily installed with little edort.

In that form ot device embodying the features of my invention shown in the accompanying drawings, Figure l isa view partly inperspective and partly in section showing, for example, a portion of a partition supported by my structure, Fig. 2 is a view taken as indicated by the line 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 isa View in perspective of one of the clips forming a part or" my invention.

In Fig. 3 is shown one of the clips forming a part of my supporting structure. `This is preterablyformed out of sheet metal and comprises a U-shaped kportion 12 adapted to embrace the three sides of one. of the bars 11. 4The ends of the U-shaped Vportion 12 are preferably bent outwardly to form side wings 12a, 12, and theextreme edgeof each oit these wings is preferably curved upwardly slightly as indicated by 121.
- In the case of a vertical wall or partition, 13, '13, indicatepie'ces of sheetmaterial, for example, w'allboard, which itis desired to use 1n forming a partition. Such wallboard, for example, may come in `rectangular sections, one of which I have shown in Fig. l between the two postsor bars 11, 11. These two posts or bars arel preferably spaced so that'they will lie against its yvertical edges, and the loweredge of such pieceof wallboa'rd rest-s on the floor insideof the channel 10, 1f one is used. The ends of the posts 11, 11, are'supported, as from the ceiling, in any suitable manner (not shown). f
To hold the sections of wallboardl in place, a suitable number of clips are; applied to each post 1l. These clips are applied so thatfthe U-shaped portion ofeach one embraces thepost ll withl the wings l2 lying against the surfaces of adjacent sections ot wallboard. The clips are turned so that such wings l2a on alternate clips lie on one side ot the wallbvoard and the wings of the other e clipsy lie on the other side.
The U-shaped portion of each clip is preferablymade a 'little smaller than the post so that the clip may be sprung or snapped onto f the post vwhere it will be heldin position by the spring of the metal. y

7. A sheet material supporting structure as Claimed in claim l in Combination with a channel member in Which one end of the bar is supported, said channel member also adapted to support one edge of a piece of sheet material;
8. A sheet material supporting structure as claimed in claim 2 in combination vwith a channel member in which one end of the bar is supported, said channel member also adapted to support one edge of a piece of sheet material.v
9. A sheet material supporting structure as claimed in claim 3 in combination With a channel member in which one end of the bar is supported, said channel member also adapted to support one edge oi a piece of sheet material.
