Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket or holder for grenades comprising few parts and a structure that can be economically manufactured.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention;

The invention briefly described consists of a grenade support comprising a bracket or plate adapted to be secured to a wall or other supporting structure, a pair of resilient supporting members adapted to embrace the grenade and form the support therefor and means including a fusible element engaging the supporting members and retaining them under tension. In the form of the invention shown, the means for holding or retaining the supporting members under tension is located on the opposite side of the grenade from the bracket or plate on which the members are mounted and when the fusible element melts, the resilient supports spring apart, permitting the grenade to drop. The grenade is preferably formed of glass or other frangible material and is broken. when its strikes the floor. thereby freeing thefire extinguishing liquid, such as carbon tetrachloride, contained In the particular form 0 shown there is illustrated a f the invention plate or bracket 10 having an opening 11 therein adapted to receive a screw or other retaining member.
The
plate is preferably formed of sheet metal and has punched therefrom or secured thereto two sets of pivot lugs or loops 13 and 14.
The grenade is supported in a pair of longitudinally curved supporting members 16 and 17 formed of resilient material, such as resilient wire stock. These members have substantially straight end portions 20 and 21 which are disposed in parallel relation to each other when the supporting members are placed under tension as shown in Fig. 3.
The members 16 and 17 are bent laterally as shown at 22 and 23 and at lateral portions,

The downwardly extending portions 25 are pivoted in the lugs or loops 13 and 141. The
bends 22 and 23 are so formed that in order to bring the body portions of the members 16 and 17 to the position shown in Fig. 3, or to the position in which they are adapted to support a grenade 30, the members must be placed under tension. In order to retain the supporting members under tension, a plate 31 c is mounted on theouter ends 20 and 21 of the supporting members 16 and 17. The plate has an opening 33 adjacent one edge thereof for receiving the end 21 of the member 17. has formed thereon, an elongated notch 35. As the resilient supports are released, the grenade will drop and break, thus extinguishing the fire. Furthermore, as the supports are released, the tension will cause the supports to swing about the pivot portions 25 thereof as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 8 and elbows 18 of the supports will exert a thrust against the grenade, forcing the grenade away from the wallas it drops. The impact of the elbows 18 against the frangible grenade will also tend to break the grenade and release the liquid.
1F rom the foregoing description it will be seen that a simple and practical grenade support has been designed and that this support will in case of fire, quickly release the grenade. Furthermore, it should be noted that the fusible element or connector is located in a position spaced from the Wall or other supporting structure on which the device is mounted and, therefore, will become heated and function more quickly than it would if the fusible element were located against the supporting bracket or plate 10 and in close proximity to the wall.
Although one specific embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
What l'claim is:
l. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of resilient grenade engaging and supporting elements carried by said bracket, and means, including a fusible element, engaging and holding said elements under tension whereby to support a grenade.
2. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of resilient grenade engaging and supporting elements carried by said bracket and extending outwardly therefrom, and means, including a fusible element, engaging the outer ends of and holding said elements under tension whereby to support a grenade;
3. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of resilient grenade engaging and supporting elements pivotally carried by said bracket, and means, including a fusible element, engaging and holding said elements under tension whereby to support a grenade.

6. A grenade support comprising a bracket,
a pair of resilient grenade engaging and supporting elements carried by said bracket, and heat controlled means spaced from said bracket and engaging said elements for holding the elements under tension.
7. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of resilient grenade engaging and sup porting elements carried by the bracket and adapted to spring apart, and heat controlled means engaging said elements for holding the elements under tension and in position to support a grenade.
8. A grenade support comprising a pair of resilient elements adapted to embrace and support the grenade, and fusible means for holding said elements under tension, said elements having portions adapted to move the grenade laterally when the elements are released.
9. A grenade support comprising a pair of resilient elements adapted to embrace and support the grenade, and fusible means for holding said elements under tension, said elements having portions adapted to exert a lateral pressure on the grenade when the elements are released.
10. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of grenade engaging and supporting elements pivotally carried by said brackct, and means including a fusible element engaging said supporting elements and retaining said elements against relative pivotal movement, said elements being mounted on said bracket to partake of pivotal movement away from each other upon removal or fail ure of the fusible means.
11. A grenade support comprising a bracket, a pair of grenade engaging and supporting elements pivotally carried by said brackct, and means including a fusible element engaging said supporting elements and retaining said elements against relative pivotal movement, said elements being curved to embrace the grenade and mounted on said bracket to partake of pivotal movement away from each other upon removal or failure of the fusible means. i
12. A grenade support comprising a pair of resilient elements adapted to embrace and support a grenade. and fusible means for holding said elements under tension and in position to support the grenade.
