The invention generally has reference to record file holders andmore particularly to that type ofholder which is adapted for use to supplant the storing shelves common in phonograph cabinets and serve to hold the records in the cabinet'neatly, compactly and in a manner permitting ready inspection, removal or replacement of the records.

In its more detailed nature the invention seeks to provide certain new and useful improvements in devices of the character stated comprising a vertical standard secured in the back of the cabinet andone or more rod extensions vertically adjustable thereon and including extensible sections, and a recor file supporting plate carried by each extension and adapted to carry a plurality of record files in angularly adjustable manner to facilitate the viewing, removal or replacement, of the records.

With the above and other objects in view that will hereinafter appear, the invention still further resides in the novel details of combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be firstfully described, then be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a face view illustrating the invention as mounted in a phonograph cabinet, the door thereof being shown open.

which said chamber may be closed with the conventional type of door or doors.

Incarrying out the principles of the invention I provide a mounting standard which is preferably a non-circular rod 3 secured at top and bottom as at 4 and 5 to the cabinet in the central rear portion thereof, as indicated in Figures 1 and 2 of -1ngs.

A slide guide bar 6 is provided and is equipped with a sleeve having a socket/7 to slidably fit the mounting standard 3 to mount the said bar to project horizontally forwardly from and slidable on the said standard, a set screw 8 being provided to secure the said bar at any desired vertical adjustment on said standard. By thus mounting the slide bar a plurality of such bars may be employed, if desired, and secured to the standard in suitable vertically spaced relation.

The slide bar 6 is provided with a hollow bore 9 (preferably non-circular) which extends through the advance end of the bar 6 and throughout substantially the whole length thereof. A slot 10 isprovided through the upper wall of the guide bar which communicates with the bore 9 through a fraction of the advance portion of its length, and a small slotway 11 through the bottom wall in its advance end, the purose for both of which will presently appear.

The slot 11 serves to accommodate the positioning of an anti-friction roller 12 adapted to engage an enlarged head 13 on the rear end of the slide extension member 1a slidable in the bore 9 to prevent inadvertent removal o r displacement of the said member 14 from an extensible retractible relation in the said bore. Thesaid roller also serves as an anti-friction rest for the ,advance end of the member 1a when it isbeing slid inwardly or outwardly inits extensible mounting just described.

The member 14 is also provided with an upturned end or head 16 movable into the slot 10 when said member is fully retracted to the position illustrated in fulllines in Figure 2 of the drawings and upon which is mounted the record files carrying plate 17.

A plurality of record files 18 in the nature of receiving envelopes having finger notches 19 and sightholes 20 are adapted to be carthe drawried by the plate 17. To strengthen the files each envelope may be equipped with a stiffener wire or rim 21 fitted into the edge thereof and each provided at its lower edge with a pair of depending lugs 22 on which are mounted balls 23. Foradjustably mounting the record files upon the plate 17 the said plate is provided With a plurality of ball socket members comprising

24 and 25 each having a half round threaded shank 26 passing through a hole in the said plate and collectively adapted to receive a mounting and clamping nut 27 which, when screwed home,

serves not only to secure the ball socket memmounted in a cabinet with records filed therein it is only necessary to grasp the end of the carrier plate and exert a pull forwardly when the expansible mounting equipment 6, 141, will permit withdrawal of the said plate forwardy to a position where the records may be viewed and handled with facility, it being found very desirable at times to turn the plate on its pivotal connection, to attain the best light possible in searching for a desired record.

It will be understood, of course, that. the anti-friction roller 12 is removably mounted and is removed when the member ll is inserted into the bore 9 after, which it is mounted and then serves not only as an anti friction rest member but as a keeper preventing complete Withdrawal of the member 14. v

It will be observed by reference to Figure 5 of the drawings that the reinforcing wire frame 21 of the record files 18 is constructed of a single piece of wire bent adjacent its middle portion to form the bottom reinforcing portion having the ball mounting lugs 22 and having the ends thereof turned horizontally to'reinforce the opening into the file through which the records are inserted. extreme end terminates at an opposite side of the file where it is wrapped once about and suitably'secured to the said opposite side forming wire portion, as indicated in the said figure.

In a device of the class described wherein is provided a cabinet having a record compartment, the combination with the record compartment, of a supporting standard mounted vertically at the rear of said compartment and in the central longitudinal plane thereof, a slide guide bar carried by said standard to project forwardly therefrom in the central plane of said compartment and having a telescopic section, a record files carrying plate carried by said telescopic section at its forward end, a plurality of record files carried by said plate, and means to permit angular adjustment of the record files with relation to the carrying plate and fric-' tionally to hold the files at adjusted positions. i

3. In a device of the class described where-' in is provided a cabinet having a record compartment, the combination with the record compartment, of a supporting standard mounted vertically at the rear of said compartment and in the central longitudinal plane thereof, a slide guide bar carried by said standard to project forwardly therefrom in the central plane of said compartment and having a telescopic section, a record files carrying plate carried by said telescopic section at its forward end, a plurality of record files carried by said plate, and means including adjustable frictional clamping ball and socket connections to permit angular adjustment of the record files with relation to the carrying plate.

4. In a device of the classdescribed, a sup porting standard mountable in a phonograph cabinet record compartment, a slide guide bar carried by the standard and having a telescopic section, a record files carrying plate carried by the telescopic section, a plurality of record files carried by said plate,

means to permit angular adjustment of the recor'd files with relation to the carrying plate, said means comprising balls carried by the record files, and half socket devices to fit around said balls, and shank and nut a emia connections to secure the socket devices to the plate and in clamping engagement with the balls.

5. In a device of the class described, a supporting standardmountable in a phonograph cabinet record compartment, a slide guide bar carried by the standard and having a telescopic' section, a record files carrying plate mounted on and movable with said telescopic section, means for mounting said plate on the telescopic section in a manner permitting rotary movement of said plate on said mounting.

In a device of the class described, a sup portin standard mountable inv a phonograph cabinet record compartment, a slide guide rbar carried by the standard and having a telescopic section, a record files carrying plate carriedby the telescopic section, a plural-. ity of record files carried by said plate, means "including ball and socket connections to permit angular adjustment of the record files with relation to the carrying plate, said rec- 0rd files each having a reinforcing wire frame and a pair of ball carrying lugs, balls carried by the lugs, and ball receiving sockets carried by the carrying plate. r

In a device of the class described, a supporting standard mountablein a phonograph cabinet record compartment, a slide guide bar carried by the standard, said bar having a slide guide bore therein, a slide section slidable in said bore and'adapted to be projected and retracted in the bore and having an enlarged head on its' inner end, an antifriction roller inthe advance end of the bore on which the slide section slides and which serves to prevent displacement of said sec tion by engagement with the enlarged head thereof, a record files carrying plate carried by the slide section, and a plurality of record files carried by said plate for the purposes specified.
