IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,586, dated November 30, 1875; application filed July 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY O. PERRY, of Wilkesbarre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsyvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the-letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates 'to improvements in sash-holders; and consists in asubstantial case inserted in a mortise in the side of sash, and in which is placed the operating lever, sliding-key, and arm of presser-bar, all arranged in combination with said case, and with-each other, so that the sash can be locked at pleasure, as hereinafter fully explained.

The cap I), whensecured to the plate a, will hold the several operating parts in place, so that the use of pivots and other means of securing and holding each part in place is dispensed with. It has the curved opening or mortise 6, made to correspond with the curvature of and is placed flush with the curved shoulder at.

In the act of locking the sash, it drops of its own gravity, and is directed by the mortise e and projection it into the proper place between the lever h and shoulder d, to lock the device at any desired point.
The sash is locked by pressing down the lever h, which forces the bar D against the window-casing. The key It drop into the angle between the shoulder d and lever h, and locks'the latter and the sash.
To unlock the sash the key is lifted to the upper end of the mortise e, which permits the rising of the lever and the withdrawal of the bar D from contact with the window-casmg. 4
