Definitions
- This invention relates to improvements in the treatment of textitle fibers and more particularly has for its object the delustering of artificial silk fibers or rayon. It is well known that for many purposes the higher luster of artificial silk or rayon is objectionable and it is, therefore, advisable to improve the appearance of the artificial silk fibers by removing the excessive gloss or delustering same 1 as may be desired. It is important that in such a treatment the strength of the fiber and. its adaptability for other uses be not lessened.
- This mixture is heated, 4 parts of paraifin are added, the glue and soap serving as the emulsifying agents for the emulsion of paraffin in water.
- this parafiin emulsion 1 part is used to 40 parts of water and. the rayon material is subjected to a bathof this material at a temperature of 90 to 95 F. for a period of about ten minutes.
- the specific action of the paraffin emulsion on the rayon fibers is to coat the surface of the rayon fiber with a thin layer of adhesive and render same more susceptible to the subsequent treatment with an abrasive.
- the preliminary treatment of the rayon fiber with this paraffin emulsion is important as it tends to make the fiber much more receptive to the after treatment with an abrasive.
- infusorial earth instead of infusorial earth other abrasives such as chalk, kaolin, fullers earth, talc or zinc oxide may be substituted.
- What I claim is 1.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by treating same with an emulsion of olive oil soap, removing the superfluous liquid and subjecting the material to a bath containing infusorial earth in suspension.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by treating same with an emulsion of olive oil soap, glue and paraffin, removing the emulsifying liquid and treating the material in a bath containing infusorial earth in suspension.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by treating same with an emulsion of olive oil soap, glue and parafiin, removing the emulsifying liquid andtreating the material in a bath containing a silicious abrasive in suspension.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by subjecting same to the action of an emulsion of soap, glue and parafiin in water and then subjecting same to the action of a mineral abrasive suspended in water at approximately 90 F. l
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by subjecting same to the action of an emulsion of soap, glue and parafiin in Water and then subjecting same to the action of a mineral abrasive'suspended in Water at ap- 105 proximately 90 F. and for a period of thirty minutes.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by treating the same with a parafiin emulsion and thensubjecting the fiber to a no I pension.
- a process bf delustering artificial silk fibers by treating the same with a parafiin emulsion and then subjecting the fiber to a "Water bath containing infusorial earth in suspension.
- a process of delustering artificial silk fibers by subjecting the fibers to a preliminary coating of a water proofing material and then treatingthefibers so coated to the action of 11-.
- a process ofdelustering artificial silk fibers by subjecting said fibers to a preliminary coating of'an adhesive material and then v subjecting said coated fibers to the, action of water havingi infusorial earth in suspension .therein.
