METALLIC WNDOV-FRAMEAND SASH CONSTRUCTION.
applicati@ inea Aprilia, 1927. semi No. isa/ies.
This invention relates to riietallic window construction adapted to provide a strong support with a remainder ot a building structure.
Another object of the invention comprehends .orooves in the sashes and ainbs.
A further object contemplates keys carried slidably mo unt the within the grooves to from wea-ther condiing novel features and details of construction to .be hereinafter more fully described7 illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation ont the frame and saslies mounted therein. I
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the frame. Y y Figure 8 is a transverse section taken on line 3*?) of Figure 1. K j
Figure 4l is a detail section taken through a portion Yof the amb and sash and illustrating the relative arrangement of the keys.
Figure 5 is a perspective'ot akey.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corre# sponding parts, the reference character Flindicates a window frame constructed Vot metal.r
The sill 11 after the, manner oit the top of the 'l frame is provided with fins 12 extended lon-` gitudinally thereof. YThe janibs 18 oi. the
window frame are provided with spaced vertically dispos-ed-groovesl registering with grooves 15 in the side rails o'l' the saslies 16.
The vsashes are also constructed et metal. Y' Keys 17 are positioned within the registering grooves 14 and 15 ot the Jambs and sashes and i held against displacement within the grooves of the sashes by bolts 18. Such' arrangement will permit the sashes to be slid'within Athe frame. The keys'l combine the results of a sliding mounting and weather strip 'tor the sashe's.
The top and bottom rails of the upper and lower sashes respectively are `provided with grooves 19 to receive the iins v12 whereby the perimeter of the sash is sealed from outside atmospheric conditions. l
rlhe meeting rails of the upper and lower sashes are provided with grooves Q() and ribs l21 adapted for interiltting engagement to seal the connection between thesashes. Such construction will entirely weather strip the whole assembly. v Y Y i A. In Figure 1l of the drawingsI have illustrated in a dotted line position a key in the act of being driven oi' otherwise .slidV within the grooves pr-ecede'ntte anchorage upon a sash through the instrumentality of the boltsvlSr which may bev of a varied character incident to theiinish or design of the particular winf dow sash. l Y
Each of the sashes is provid-ed with an'r 'an .nular ribA 22 upon the inner sidesof the rails i thereof against which transparent panels 23 lmay repose when held against displacement thereon by putty orother plastic composition as illustrated at 24.
The invention isA susceptible. of various changes in its form, proportions and n'iinorV detailsof construction7 and the right is here.- in reserved to make such changesas properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.- 1j
Having' describedthe inventiom what is' claimed is: f
A window construction comi'jri'sing a vtramev provided withgrooves in tlie'sides thereof and ribs at the top and bottom, sashes carried within the iframe having groovesfinthe siderails thereotadapted for registration with they aforementioned -grooves, Vadditional grooves provided in the outermost rails of the sashes adapted to receive the ribs at ythe top and bottoni walls et the traine, and keyscarried within the sash grooves and projectedv outwardly therefrom;within the grooves in the sides ot' the iframe to slidably. inouiit'the sashes therein.
