Application filed my 2. 1927. Serial no. scam.
My present invention has reference to a tobacco pipe and my aim is the provision of a smokers article of this type, constructed of sections which may be readily disassociated to facilitate the cleaning of the pipe and as readily assembled in anefiective manner, and further wherein the smoke is caused to take a circuitous passage so that the same will be cooled before entering the mouth of the smoker.-
To the attainment of the above broadly.
stated objects and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the improvement resides in the construction and operative association of parts, a satisfactory embodiment of which is disclosed by the accompanaying drawings.
In the drawings: I I Figure 1 is a side elevation of asmokers pip? in accordance with this inventlon. I
' igure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough. I
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. Y
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line44 of Figure 1.
Figures 5 and 6 illustrate respectively inner plan views of the mouthpiece sections.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the plug. The bowl of. the pipe is indicated by the numeral 1, the stem by the numeral 2 and the mouth piece by the numeral 3. The bowl 1 4 has its bore at the lower portion thereof threadedand in this threaded portion there is screwed a plug 4. The plug'has-one of its sides notched,- as at 5, and its bottomis formed with a depending boss or lug 6'. Passing centrally through'the plug there is a headed and threaded member 7. This member 7 also passes through an opening in the outer section 8 for the stem and for the bowl. The boss 6 is received in a pocket 9 on the inner face of. the part 8 of the pipe, and the stem proper and the stem portion formed onthe removable pipe section 8 have an alining smoke passage. The inner flat face of the stem 2 of the pipe bowl is formed with a V-shaped passage 10, and the inner flat face of the stem portion of the removable section 8 is formed with a rib 11 whose walls are disposed at an angle for frictional engagement with the angle side walls of the passage 10. The rib 11 is centrally formed with a substantially V-sh'aped' groove 12 that registers with the groove or assage 10. The section 8, is held against t e bowl proper and the stem 2 by a nut 13 which is screwed on the threaded 'member'or bolt 7. The plug 4 forms the bottom of the smoke chamber and the notch 5 affords a smoke passa e from the chamber to the smoke passage of t e stem. The boss 6- offers an abutment for the smoke passing from the smoke chamber so that the smoke is caused to travel around the boss before passing through the stem and consequently the smoke is cooled before being drawn into the smokers mouth. The stem 3 is made up of two sections, one of which is provided with a substantially V- shaped groove or passage 14 and the other with a rib 15 whose side walls are angular to frictionallyl engage withthe side walls provided by t e groove orpassage 14. The rib is centrally formed with a passage 16 that registers with the passage 14. One of the sections is formed with transverse lugs 17 at the opposite sidesof the'passage' 16, and the other has a transverse notch 18 to receive the lug 17 therein. The mouth piece sections have a round openin entering from one of the ends thereof, and t is opening 19 receivestherein the outer end of the stem 2 and the outer end of the stem portion of the detachable member 8. A band or ferrule 20 is passed over the sections comprising the mouth piece and compresses the said mouth piece against thepipe stem while'a second band 21 is also arranged over the mouth piece I sections to assist in holding the same associated.
The construction and advantages of my improved smokers pipe will, it is thought, be apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention relates, so that further detail description will not be required.
1 Having described the invention, I claim A smokers pipe including a bowl having an open bottom and a stem section extending from said bottom, a second removable stem site flat faces which is screwed in the lower portion of the open bottom of the 'bowl and which has a dependin lug seated in the widened end portion of t e removable stem sec- 5 tion, said plug havin its threaded portion provided with a perifiheral notch that communicates with the smoke passage in the stem,
and a headed bolt passing centrally through the plug and throu h the widened end portion of the removabTe stem section and a nut screwed on said bolt and frictionally engaging with the said widened end portion of the removable stem section. I OSCAR ASPGREN.
