As here embodied my improved swimming garment comprises two pieces of material 10 and 11 formed and cut so as to provide a waist or undergarment such as a girdle or present-clay corset, adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer, under the arms.- The said members 10 and 11 are secured together at the edges thereof, as at 12, by a strip of any desired suitable material preferably vulcanized to the said members 10 and 11, so as to provide a semi-airtight garment. Eyelets 13 and 14: are secured to the edges of the members 10 and 11, positibned at the rear of the said garment, adapted to receive the usual lace15, tape, string, or the like, secured or tied, as at 16, to the extremities so as to permit the garment to be securely held in position on the body of the wearer.

Tapes 17 and 18 are secured at their extremities, as at 19, 20 and 21, 22, respectively, by eyelets similar to the hereinbefore described eyelets, to the upper portion of the said garment, and extended upwardly therefrom, adapted to extend over the shoulders of the wearer. Similar tapes 23 and 24 are secured attheir extremities, as at 25, 26, and 27, 28, respectively, by eyelets similar to the hereinbefore described eyelets, to the lower portion of the said garment and extended downwardly'therefrom, adapted to extend between. the limbs of the said wearer. The latter described construction is such as will securely hold the said garment in place on the body of the wearer.

The above described garment is provided with a front central extended. portion 29, having secured. thereto aring member 30, over which the tubular member 31 is en-' gaged. The said tubular member 31 is provided with a threaded aperture adapted to receive the extended member 32of hollow construction, and provided with an enlarged upper portion 33, adapted to be placedover the mouth of the wearer of my improved garment. The said enlarged upper portion 33 is provided withlug elements 34 and 35, adapted to be gripped by the teeth of the wearer.- The valve 36 is freely mounted in the tubular'member 32 and is held therein by rods 37 and 38, extended across the opening formed in the said'tubular member and secured thereto. The'valve 36 is constructed so as to permit air to be forced by the wearer of my improved garmentinto the I said garment, so as to prevent the escape of,

the air.. .It should be understood that the above described construction issuch as will permit my improved garmenttobe main tained in an inflated condition while the wearer is swimming or floating inthe water.

I have also shown a plurality of eyelets 39 similar to the hereinbefore mentioned eyelets, secured to my improved garment, and positioned or arranged in vertical rows, preferably staggered so as to provide remforcement for the said garment, and so as to provide a. better fitting garment, conforming more closely to the body of the wearer.

In Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown my improved garment provided with an extended portion 29, comparatively shorter than the above mentioned and described extended portion 29. The

In Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown the method of attaching the hereinbefore mentioned eyelets to my improved garment, and which comprise the usual tubular member 42, having a flanged portion 43 or rim and which is inserted through apertures formed in the said members 10 and 11, reinforcing members 44 and 45 of ring shaped construction being placed adjacent :to the members 10 and 11, and the flanged portion 43 and the eyelet ring 46, the extremity of the tubular member 42 being crimped or :bent outwardly and downwardly,

against .the eyelet ring 46 so as to securely hold the said eyelet in place and so as to prevent the escape-of air from my improved garment.

in 5 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a disc member 48, preferably of soft material sewn or stitched as at 49, to the ring member .44, so as to prevent the flanged portion 43 of the said tubular member 42 fromcha'fing or irritating the skin of the '48, "for asimi'lar purpose adapted to enclose or zcover the flanged portion 43 of the tubular member 42 and provided with extended portions 51-adapted to engage under the said flanged'portion 43, so as to securely hold the said disc member .50 in place.

In Fig. 7 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a disc member .52, having formed therein a central aperture, adapted to receive the tubular member 42. The said disc member 52 is gathered aroundand over the flanged portion 43 and stitched or sewn asat53, and forced into the central opening of the said tubular member 42, so as to pro vide a smooth outer surface for the purpose as above set forth.

In Fig. 8 my device 1S shown to be in use and lacing 15 is shown to be attached to the front of the garment.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Let ters Patent of the United States is as fol lows:

1. In a device of the class described, two pieces of material formed to provide a garment, a strip secured along the edges of the said pieces for joining the pieces to provide an air chamber, and a plurality of eyeletsengaged thru the said pieces for preventing excessive inflation of the air chamber by holding the said pieces together for providing a neat fitting garment.

2. In a device of the class described, two pieces of material formed to provide a ment,a strip secured along the edges of the said pieces for joining the pieces to provide an air chamber, and a'plurality of eyelets engaged thru the said pieces for preventing excessive inflation of the air chamber by holding the said pieces together for providing a neat fitting garment, and cloth disc members engaged under the heads of :the eyelets, and cross thefaces of the eyelets, excess material from the said cloth discs being forced into the hollow portions of the eyelets, for preventing the eyelets from directly engaging against a wearer.
