FOUNTAIN PEN STAND Filed Jan. 14, 1927 INVENTOR IVAN 5. HE/LB/FUN BY v m ATTORNEY hunted Mar. 5, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
IVAN S. HEILBBUN, OI NEW YOBK, N. Y.
' FOUNTAIN-PEN STAND.
Application filed January 14, 1927. Serial No. 161,085.
This invention relates to the class of articles commonly known as fountain pen desk sets and more particularly to a stand or holder for a fountain pen or the like.
The object of this invention is to provide a self-ri hting stand which is so constructed that w en tilted from its normal upri ht position it will automatically return to tfiat position. I
The accom anying drawings illustrate a preferred em odiment of my invention in which which engages with the ta ered innersurface of the neck, as shown 111 ig. 1, so as to prevent the pen from being inserted too, far into thebase with possible injury to the penpoint.
In its preferred embodiment, the base is of substantially oblate spheroidal shape, al-
though I do not limit myself to this particnlar configuration. V 0 v The base may be made of pyroxyhn, glass, metal, or other suitable material and 1s preferably Inadeof two halves, cemented or otherwise secured together so as to form a rib or flan e7 extending circumferentially around the oint. The lowerhalf has a flattened bottom portion 8, preferably formed with a recess 9, and upwardly and outwardly curved walls 10 that provide rocking surfaces on which the base may be tilted or rocked. The base is suitably weighted in its interior with a layer of cement 11 or other weighting ma- 5 terial so that when tilted from its upright position it will automatically return thereto.
The flattened portion 8 provides a rest on which the base may stand in upright position upon a deskor other surface, and the peripheral rib or flange 7 prevents the base from being overturned or tilted too far from the vertical. By grasping the pen 4 in one hand and tiltmg the base, the pen can be readily removed from the base which will then automatically right itself. Inasmuch as the operation of removing or replacing the pen may be conveniently erformed with one hand, the other hand isle tfree for use for other purposes.
Various modifications in the detailed the construction herein described may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What I claim is a A self-righting stand for writing implements, including a hollow body having a .lower portion and an upper portion, a connection for said portions to secure same together, said connection extending outwardly from the body so as to form aperipheral projection adapted to engage with the surface of a support to thereby restrict tiltingmovement of the body, a wei ht within and secured to the bottom of-the 'ower portion, and a tubular neck secured to and pro'ecting outwardly from. the upper. portion an formed to receive a writing implement therein.
