Description

3.' W; TRIP?. WINDOW-SASH 'IBEAD-FASTENER.
Pat-ante& Nov. 23,1875.
inventor:
witnesses NJEIERS. PHOTO-UTHOGRAFMR. WASHINGON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. 'rnrnor BELLAIRE, OHIO,
IMPRQVEMENT IN WINDW-SASH-BEAD FASTENRS.
S ecification forming -part of Letters Patent No. 170,4 17, dated November 23, 1875; application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom it may conccrn: V
Be it known that I, JOHN W. TRIPP.. of Bellaire, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvenents in WindoW-Sash-Bead Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertais` to make and use the same, reference being had to 'the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forn a part of this specification.
Fignre l is a vertical section through the windowframe, with the heads removed to show the sliding bolts; Fig. 2, a side View ot' the head, showingstaples, or their equivalents, attached to the back of it; and Fig. 3, acrosssection, showing the heads fastened in their proper places by the sliding bolts.
Like letters in all the figures of the drawings indicate like parts.
The object ofmy invention is to provide a convenient method of fastenin g and releasing the heads in the window-frame, so that the sash can be readily taken out when desired; and it consists of sliding bolts snitably secured in recesses of the widowjamb, in combination with staples attached to the heads, so that by drawing hack the holts the heads can be released and the sash taken out, as will be hereinai'ter more fnlly explained.
A sliding bolt, A, is attached, one at the upper and another at the lower part of the jamb B. The bolts are constructed as shown in Fig. 1, and placed in reccsses flush with the surface of the jamb, and secnred therein by guides or holders, d a, attached to the janb. The bolts are provided with flat thumb-pieces b, by which they are operated to fasten or release the heads 0 D. A staple, c, is driven in near the upper end of each head, and depressions, d d, are made in thej-amb to receive the sta-ples When the heads are fastened in.
The operation is as follows: The sliding bolts are first drawn back by taking hold of the thumb-pieces b; the heads are then placed in their proper positions, With the staples in the depressions, and fastened by pushing the bolts in the staples. Both heads are simultaneonsly fastened or released by respectively sliding in or drawing hack the bolts.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The sliding bolts A, constructed to fasten both heads 0 D, in combination With eyes or staples, c c, attached to the heads, substantially as set forth.
In testinony that I claim the foregoing as i my own invention, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
