Description

' W. MCGILVERY CAMP TABLE Filed March 15] 1926 Patented Feb. 19 1929.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM MQGILVEBY, or DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
CAMP
TABLE.
Application filed March 15, 1926. Serial No. 94,656.
This invention relates to camping tabies and has particular reference to such a table particularly designed numerous tourist camps throughout the country.
The principal object of the invention is to provide such a table particularly appiicabie to the use of tourists, and one that may be so arranged that it will hold a tour" ists cooking equipment and dishes safely during the nighttime, or at times other than when the device is used as a table.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the further description of the invention.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and wherein like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure l is a central section of the device showing the sides and ends folded for use as a common table, and one oft-he legs folded up as it would ap iear when the device is to be moved; 1 i
Figure 2 is a fragmental top plan View of the device as it would appear with the ends and one side raised to provide a winder weather shield and the other side extended;
Figure 3 is a side view of Figure 2;
Figure f is a bottom plan view of the table, and i Figure 5 is a fragn'iental top plan view.
lhe table top comprises a rectangularly shaped board 1, which may be of any size desired and best suited for the purpose, to either side of which t hin ed the extension leaves 2 and 3, are practically in the form of barefaced tenons, so that when they are folded over'one upon the other, asshown in Figure 1 they form a scarf joint with the surface of the leaves or wings in the same plane.
To the ends of the table top 1 are hinged the triangularly shaped wings 4 and 5 and these are adapted to be swung downwardly and inwardly, up against the bottom of the table top, indicated in F i gure 1..
The consist of screw threaded rods 5, pivotaily mounted within the brackets 6, which are lixed to the bottom of the table top. Extension legs 7 are provided which consist of interiorly screw threaded tubes which screw threadedly engage the legs 5,, so that by screwmgor unscrewing theextension legs 7 the table top assume a level position regardless of any irregularities in the ground surface, The
for use in any of they the extreme free ends of which i may be made tomay be folded upwardly against'the bottom -of the table top, as indicated in Figure 1, for transporting the device, and to hold the same-1n such position, as well as in upright position when functioning as a table leg, there is shown a collar 8 for each leg, this collar being adapted to slip overtheleg and onto the bracket 6 just below its pivotal con- 1 nection with the leg, and is then secured by the set screw 9, which prevents the leg from any pivotal movement when in either of the positions illustrated in Figure 1.
' I have shown in the wing 2 a notched out portion 10 which communicates with a longitudinal slot extending from the portion 10 out through the end of the wing 2. This slot registers when the wings are folded together as in Figure 1 with a like slot 11 in the wing and in these slots may reciprocate the lockmg key 12 one end of which is upturned forming a convenient means for reciprocatingthc same, and when the key extends into the slot 11 it holds the wings tightly down against the table top, and when in this position the table is ample for two persons. However when more room is desired the wings may be made to function as extension wings asindicated in Figure 3. Whenever protection is needed from high winds or other interference from the elements the ends 4 and 5 may be raised to a vertical position and for example the wing 3 swung up to'rest against the edge of the end wings, as indicated in Figure 2. During the nighttime, or at times when the device is used other than as a table, both of the side wings may be made to rest against the edge of the win s- 4 and 5, as indicated in Figure 3, which will I i completely house in the average tourists cooking equipment so that he will not have to pack the same away at night and then have to get it out again in the morning. A hole '13 may be made in the end of the wing 3, so that, asshown in Figure 3, the key l2'may extend through same and made secure in that position by any suitable padlock or other locking means. A pivotal brace is indicated at 14 which may support the side wings when used as extensions of the table top.
From the foregoing it is apparent that I have devised a camping table which meets a great many of the requirements of the auto tourist. Of course various modificationsof structure and arrangement of parts may be of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desi're' to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a foidahle table of 5 the class described having a top comprising a central portion to which foldable Wing. gortions are attached, of two of said wing porsignature.
