This invention relates to acleaningiapparatus.
, The object of the invention is the' pro ducr i tion 01 an apparatus, bymeans ofe w'hich different objec ts,'such as pieeesofffabric, carpets, bags of Various kinds, namely cement bags,..plaster bags, flour bags "and the like can be economically andLq-uickly cleaned] Theseco-nd object of the i-nyentioni's the production of. a cleaning apparatus, Wherewith the dust, dirt or other material dusted.v from the bags or other objects is easily, collected. The third object of the invention is the pro duet-ion of a cleaning apparatus with a clean ing drum constructed to tumble the objects dusted therein without the use of baiflegplates.
1 The, organization of the invention comprises a dust tight housing having a door for an opening therein, A rotatable ho1lowdrum is located in the housing and has Ipro- VltlQCl therefor a chargnig door and d1scharg. ing door forsuitable openings thereof. A
dust collecting hopper is located below the housing, and is provided with a. door for discharging doorofthe drum to form an opening thereof which coacts with the a disehargechute for sa'id: drume d I In the accompanying drawings, ,Fig. l,represents a vertical section of an exemplifies.- tion of the apparatus,.as-on the line 15 1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 shows apartial right hand side View partly broken aavayof Fig, 1'; and

fastenedto the outer faces. of the. end wall's 35, and are bent over the accompanyinghrace 36 of each pairand are -fastenedtotlie lat.- .ter'hy, means ofthebolts 67;.
dust collectinghopper is, designated in its. entirety by the letter, Cand; comprises the front tapering wall 68 lia.-vi.ng thedoor opening; 69, therear. tapering \V3ill..705. and theside taperingwallell and 7.2., The wal'ls of the'hopper C have connected thereto the dust outlet chute 73. A plate; valve 74 is guided in grooves 75 ot the chute'73, and
guide plates 76 extend from said chute for the valve 74. Hooks 77 extend from the chute 73 for the detachable dust collecting bag 78. v I
A hopper door 80 is hinged to the Wall 68 of the hopper C, by means of the hinges 81.
A stop v82 extends from the lower face of the floor 20 outside of said hopper for the door 80, and a stop 83inv the hopper has its ends! fastened to the Walls 71 and 72 thereof for said door 80.
To use the dust cleaning apparatus, the doors 31 are opened, and the cleaning drum B is brought to the position indicated in the drawings with the door 43 located in a vertical plane. The door 43 is then swung open, the discharging door 45 being in its closed position. The objects to be cleaned are then located in the drum B and. the doors 31 and 43 are closed. The drum is next rotated, by means of the belt 62, and the objects therein are thereby tumbled against the lattice work of the longitudinal walls thereof, and the dust and foreign matter are discharged and escape through the openings 40 andentcr the hop- 7 I per Cl The dust then enters the chute 73,,
above the valve 74. During the'rotations of the drum B the door 80 of the hopper is located in its closed position'as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. After the objects in the drum are cleaned, the drum B is stopped, and the valve 74 is moved to its open position. The dust collected in said hopper then drops into the bag 78, in-which it is collerted. Next the the door 80 of the hopper C operator swings so that its free end bears against the stop 83,
. and the door 45 of drum B is swung to its open position bearing on the door 80, as shown in Fig. 1. In this location of the doors 45 and 80 they form a dis'charge'chute for the bags or other contents of the drum, which then drop from the drum through the opening 46, slide on the doors 45 and 80 and are discharged through the opening 69.
The door 43 and its opening may be dispensed with and the drum may be charged as well as discharged through the opening 46 having the door 45. The longitudinal fiat walls of the drum B provide practical means for tumbling the objects operated. upon without the use of battle plates.
Referring to the modification shown in Fig. 4, the floor is again shown at 20, with its opening 21. The'dust tight housing A is again indicated with its front wall 25, the rear wall 26, one of its side walls 27, its roof 30 and doors 31, The cleaning drum similar to B is indicated in its entirety by the letter B. The charging door 43 of the drum is omitted, and in place ofthe single discharging door 45 there is substituted the main dis charging door 90 which is hinged over an opening similar to 46, not shown, in one of the longitudinal walls of the drum, by means of the hinges 47. The door 90has hinged thereto for an opening therein, the supplemental door 91, which functions as a charging door for the drum B The hopper is again indicated in its entirety by the letter C, with the wall 68 having theopening 69, the wall 70, the door 80, the stops 82 and 83. The dust outlet chute for the hopper is again indicated at 7 3 with its valve 74.
To use the modified form of the invention indicated in Fig. 4, and to charge its drum B, the latter is brought to the position indicated in said Fig. 4 with the doors 31 opened, and the door 90 in its closed position. The supplemental door 91 is then opened and the objects to be operated upon are located within the drum. The supplemental door 91 is next closed and the drumrotated in the usual manner with the door 80 of the hopper in its closed position. After the contents of the drum B have been cleaned the said drum is again brought totheposition shown in Fig. 4, and the door 90 is opened and brought to bear on the door 80, but the door 91 is kept closed. In this position of the parts the contents of the drum B will drop therefrom and be discharged through the opening 69.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I deopening in the housing, a cleaning drum trunnioned in the housing, said drum comprising end walls, flat longitudinal walls supported on and fastened to the end walls, said fiat walls comprising longitudinal braces and cross slats at right angles thereto forming lattice work with small dust discharge openings and maintaining the objects operated upon in said drums during its rotation, a charglng door hinged over an opening in one of said longitudinal walls and a discharging door over an opening in one of the other longitudinal walls of the drum.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 7
DANIEL N. FEITEL.
