REPTILE-VENOM-ANTIDOTE CONTAINER.

This invention relates to improvements in containers, my prlncipal ob ect being to provide a container to hold small quantities of different substances in separated relationship, and particularly relates to a structure to be used as a first aid device in connection with the treatment of snake bite.

For this purpose the, best remedy has been found to be an aqueous solution of potassium "ing separate compartments in which the ingredients will be kept separated until used, one compartment also serving as the mixing receptacle for the solution and having an injection needle permanently associated therewith. Still another object is to provide as a part of the container structure a plunger to be used in forcing the solution from the needle. The entire device when not in use forms a compact one-piece unit which may be readily carried in any pocket or other member.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views:

Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the plunger member of the structure in its operating position to force the solution from the needle.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the

device comprises an outer barrel 1 of suitable dimensions provided at one end with a threaded boss 2 from which a tubular needle 3 projects, the needle being preferably of the general hypodermic type but preferably somewhat heavier andshorter. Inwardly of the boss a certain distance the barrel is provided with an internal annular shoulder 4.

Adapted to removably depend into the barrel with a running fit is a hollow plunger 5 having a cavity 6 therein which is normally covered by a removable screw cap 7 slightly larger in diameter than the plunger and made of semi-soft rubber or similar material. The plunger when in the barrel is adapted to rest on the shoulder 4, the cap 7 then projecting somewhat beyond the opposite end of the barrel so that said cap can be grasped by the fingers to remove the plunger. A removable cap 8 screwed onto said end of the barrel is arranged to snugly hold a roll of ligature tape or cord 9, which, when the cap is screwed down snug, bears against the plunger cap and holds the plunger seated against the shoulder, so that said plunger cannot have longitudinal movement in the barrel.

Another cap 10 is removably mounted on the boss 2 to cover the needle, said cap having a socket 11 which fits snugly over the orificed end of the needle so as to make a liquid tight seal therewith if necessary.

When equipping the device for use the plunger cavity is filled with water, while the space left in the barrel between the plunger and the adjacent end of the barrel is filled withpermanganate crystals 12. When it is desired to use the device the plunger is removed from the barrel, the plunger cap is removed therefrom, and the Water is emptied into the barrel to mix with the permanganate. The cap is then replaced on the plunger and the latter is reinserted in the barrel in an inverted position. The needle cap is of course removed, the needle is inserted into the bite Wound and the plunger is advanced in the barrel, its cap making a snug contact with the bore of the barrel and forcing the solution from the needle.

While I have specifically mentioned the device as being particularly intended to carry certain definite ingredients, it will be obvious that other ingredients of a different nature and for a different purpose, and either liquid or solid, may also be carried in the device if desired.

Fromv the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice-such-deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit. of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A: container comprising a barrel, a dispensing element on one end of the same, a hollow plunger to normally contain a certain amount of a substance removably mounted in the barrel, and a shoulder in the bar'- rel' a certain. distance from the dispensing end forming a seatfor the inner end ofthe plunger whereby to leave a compartment of definite size in the barrel for the reception of a different substance.

2. A container comprising a barrel, a dis pensing-element onone end of the same, a hollow member forming a chamber to normally contain acertain amount of a substance removablymounted in the barrel, and a removable cap on one end of the said mem- 1 ber to seal the chamber and arranged to have a snug running lit with the barrel.

3. A container comprising-a barrel, a dis-- pensing element on one end of the same, a hollovv plunger to normally contain a certain amount of substance removably mounted in the barrel, a shoulder in the barrel acertain distance from the dispensing end forming a seat for the inner end of the plunger whereby to leave a compartment of definite size in the barrel for the reception of a difl'erent substance, and removable cap means for the outer endof the barrel to'normally enclose the plunger and prevent longitudinal movement thereof in the barrel.

A container comprising a barrel, a dispensing element on one end of the barrel, a hollow member removablymounted inthe barrel, and a removable cap on the normally outer end oit'the member; saidcap being- 1015 a size to snugly fit the barrel'to serve as a; plunger, and being, normally disposed outwardly of the outer end of the barrel.

5. A device as in claim 4, inWhicha-removable cap, enclosing the first named cap, mounted on theouter end of the barrel.

6. A container comprising'abarrel, a, dispensing element on one end of the barrel, a.

hollow member to containa certain amount of a substance removably mounted inv the barrel; a compartmentbeing formed between the bottom of the barrel and thesaid member vtor the reception of a second. substance, and

a removable cap on the outer endof the barrel forming, With the 21d] acent endof said member, a compartment for-a third substance.

7. A device as in claim 2, with a removable cap on the end of the barrel opposite the dispensing element and enclosing said: hollow member in the barrel;
