CABLE ANCHOR.
Application filed December The object oit my invention is to provide a cable anchor oliV that type adapted to be placed into a poet hole, and a'l'ter bein placed therein, capable of being expanded laterally7 so that a portion of the expanded members will enter the solid ground.J and when so ex panded will have a maximum amount ol rosietance againstbeing pulled out.
More specilicallv it is the object of my invention to provide a cable anchor o'l that type having Series of anchoringr fluliee capable of being expanded outwvardlgY by means; ot a movable member moving' toward the supporting` means t'or the fluisce. and to se construct the lukes that sand and line mato rial supported above the Same will be shielded trom the movable member.
A further object is to provide a ci-.ble anchor of simple, durable and inexl'ienaive construction, having` anchoring tlul-:ea` capable ot' being expanded from a partiallj,v folded position to an operative position, and when in an operative position will present a maximum anchoring surface.
My invention Consists in the construction, arrangement and conibination of the various parte of the device, whereb7 the objects contemplated are attained. as hereinafter more fully set forth7 pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a side elevation oit my improved anchor .showing the manner in which it is supported in the ground.
Figure 2 is a Sectional view ot lhe same showing the anchor in its' folded position, and the manner in which it isi placed in a pool' hole before being` expanded.
Figure 3 is a perspective view ot the anchoring tlulies.
Figure l is a plan view ol" the plate 'l'rom which the fluliea are formed.
My improved anchor comprieee an anchor rod l0 having a loop ll at one end and ita opposite end provided with a screw threaded portion l2. rllhe said rod l() has a collar or shoulder 13 adjacent to the inner end ot the screw threaded portion 1Q. Supported on the screw threaded portion ol the shaft l0 is a plate lll provided with anchorimgl Hakes l5. The plate le is tiret formed Octagonal, as shown in Figure Ll, and has its center provided with an opening` le for receivingthe rod l0. Four holes 17 are then formed in the plate equidistant from the opening 16 and equidistant apart. Radial 6, 1927. Serial No. 238,101.
slots 1S are then provided in the plate 1+i, having their outer ends terminating midway between the ends ot the edges il) ofthe plate il, said slots being iierpendicular to Said edges. Filota 2O are also provided in the plate lei. :uljaeent to the edges 21, there beinv prelierablv four slole 1S and Ytour slots 20.
llv thisy arrangement it will be Seen that he plaie ll i5 divided into l'our .sections or duke-i .lhe outer edges oit two linkes 22 are benl downwardly to an angle of substantially lo@ with the plate lll. The radial edges 23 of said 'llultee are curved inwardl)T in the manner illustrated in Figure 25. lhc intermediate llukes have their outer ende bent ilownwardljiy with their edges Q-/l overlapping 'the edgeiy 23. lhe said edges 2l are also curi ed inwardly. Thus a member is provided having the form ot a frustuni of a right pyramid.
Slidahlv mounted on the threaded portion ol the rod ll) is a pair of arms lformed oli' bendable sheet metal and arrz'inged at right angles to each other, and provided with openin 26 at their central portions for receivini;` the rod l0. The ends of the arms are provided with tongues 27 adapted to enter the openings 2O ol the flules Q2. The the arme Q5 is provided under surface ol.- with a reinforcing` plate Q8 having downwardl)7 enti-radingl luge 29 for receiving a screw threaded nut 30 between them. A sleeve El l is alidahly mounted on the rod l() between the plates il, and the arms :35, the Sleeve :El being coi'ieideralilv shorter than the distance lielween said plate l-l and the arms rilhe anchor if; now readyY to be inserted in. a post hole l2 in the manner illuatrated in lliggure 29 affilier which the rod lll) may be rotated, causing; the uut il() to move toward the plate 14. and the arma 25 to be Straightencd, causing the outer ei la ol the flakes 22 to be swung.; upwardly and outwardly and caused to enter the aide walls of the hole 3Q, in the manner illustrated in Figure l. his operation ie continued unt-il the upper end of the sleeve -ll engages; the plate il. The Said sleeve providee meant; ior limitingr the upward movement ot the nut 30, and enables the operator to know when the proper amount of expansion has been imparted to the flakes, and at the same time provider; means ilor transmitting' the lifting strain of the rod l0 from the nut 30 to the plate lil.
