Description

Patented F eb.' 19, 1929.
UNITED STATESy PATENT OFFICE.
RAY H. GROVES, 0F PORTLAND, OREGON, ASSIGNOR TO SEBASTIAN C. WILLIAMS, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
PICTURE-BLOCK TOY.
Application led November 2, 1926. lSerial No. 145,902.
My invention relates to toys in general, and particularly to block toys where the blocks bear portions of pictures or other designs, which pictures or designs are to be completed by the placing ot said blocks in a particular relation one with the others. The object of my invention is to provide a new and novel and attractive vform of such toy, which object I accomplish by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a part of this application for Letters Patent, like characters of re'terence indicating like parts throughout the several views thereof, and in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of my invenn tion with the cover raised, and Fig. 2 is a view ot the same with the cover closed.
In general my invention consists ot a plurality of cubic blocks adapted to be assembled with a completed picture in the center of the assembled blocks, a box to contain said blocks and in which to assemble the same, and a cover for said box having an orifice through which the completed picture may be observed.
In the drawing I show the simplest form of my device, being a rectangular box 3 with a cover 4 having a centrally positioned rectangular orilice 5 therein. The cover may if desired be hinged to the box as shown in Fig. 1. Within the box 8 are four cubic blccks 5, 6, 7 and 8. Each face ot said blocks is divided into quarters, and upon each of said quarters is placed one quarter of a picture, as tor example ot animals as illustrated, these quarter pictures being positioned upon the block faces so that they may be brought together in the center of the assembled blocks to form a completed picture, as of the bird in the illustrations ot the drawing.
After having assembled the blocks Within the box so as to display a completed picture in the center, the cover may be placed upon the box, whereupon the picture will be shown framed by the cover as in Fig. 2, all other picture portions being hidden by the cover.
In a device of the size shown in the drawing, it is obvious that twenty-four complete pictures may be formed to be seen through the oriiice in the cover.
My device may be made of any size, and constructed ot any materials deemed convenient and suitable for a device of this character, and while I have illustrated and described a form of construction and arrangement of parts found desirable in materializing my invention, I wish to include in this application all mechanical equivalents and substitutes that may fairly be considered to come Within the scope and purview of my invention as deiined in the appended claim.
Having disclosed my invention so that others may be enabled to construct and to use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 65
A plurality of blocks with faces divided into quarters; a portion of an ornamental design upon each of said quarters; a box to contain said blocks; and a box cover having an orifice therein through which to view a completed ornamental design when said blocks are. properly assembled within said box.
In witness whereof I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto atlix my signature at Portland, county ot Multnomah, State of Oregon, this 28th day of Oct., 1925.
