M. HEMLEB SEWING MACHINE BOBBIN CASE LATCH Filed March 26, 1924 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 19, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN HEMLEB, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE SINGER MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
SEWING-MACHINE BOBBIN-CASE LATCH.
Application filed March 26, 1924.
This invention relates to sewing machine bobbin-cases and has for an object to provide such a bobbin-case with a latch which securely holds the bobbin in place and curely held in operative position, yet in case of damage may be readily removed from the bobbin-case for repair or replacement.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following description and claim.
To the attainment of the ends in view, a bobbin-caee having a central arbor is removably fitted with a latch supporting element on which the bobbin latch-lever is pivotally mounted. The latch-lever, when in a closed position, extends radially across the rearward or open end face of the bobbin-case and has its bent free end received in a notch in the side wall or rim of the bobbin-case. The
latch may be swung 90 about its pivot to a position in line with the central arbor for re moval of the bobbin. The latch-supporting shank may house a spring and pressure head adapted to bear against side and end faces 26 provided at the pivoted end oi the latch-lever to resiliently hold the latter in either closed or open position, respectively.
In the accompanying drawings, Figs. and are, respectively, front and rear faceviews oi' c hobbin-case embodying, the invention. Fig. 3 is a section on the line .-3, Fig. 2. l ie 4. is a perspective view of the bolibin-case from which the latch has been removed. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the removed latch and Fig. 6 is a disassembled perspective view of the latch.
The invention is illustrated as embodied in a bobbin-case ot the type disclosed in my co 7 pending application Serial No. 651,800, filed July 16., 1923. Such a bobbin-case has a cupshaped body with a cylindrical wall or shell Serial No. 791.895.
pension screw 10 which. as shown in Figs; 1
and'3, is accessible at the front face of the bobbincase for manipulation to expand the front end of the shank 7 into secure gripping engagement with the tubular arbor 3.
The removable shank 7 carries the bobbinretainingr means or latch which may comprise a latch-lever 11 pivoted on the pin 12 in the head 13 on the rear end of the shank 7. A spring 14 and pressure head 15 are housed within the shank 7 and are adapted to bear upon one or the other of the angularly related faces 16, 17. to resiliently hold the latchlever in closed or open position. The latchlever is disposed at the open end of the bobbin-case and its free end 1.8 is bent over and fitted to a notch 19 in the side wall of the bobbin-case.
Having thus set forth the nature of the invent ion, what I claim herein is y A bobbin case having a cnp-shaped body and a central fixed arbor. a latch-lever supporting element, means for detachably and fixedly securing said element to said arbor, and a bobbin-latch pivotally mounted on said supporting element and disposed at the open end of said bobbin-case.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification. i
MARTIN HEMLEB.
