FLASH-LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR FIREMS.

This invention relates to a flashlight attachment for firearms, and particularly to a construction of clamping devices embracing both the flashlight and the barrel of the firearm to 5 which it is attached.

In the use of such alight or lamp, it is particularly important that it shall be disposed parallel to the barrel of the firearm to direct the light rays upon the object at which the firearm is aimed and withoutinterference with the usual sight which is not directly illuminated thereby. In the preferable constructions, the lamp is supported beneath the barrel, but in many of these devices a plurality of clamps or securingmeans are used in order to firmly support the lamp in axial alignment with the barrel, and the flashlight or lamp is not usually capable of ready removal from the attachment and use independent of the firearm.

Such removal by a single attaching device becomes particularly important, as the lamp is not used in connection with the firearm during daylight, and it is frequently desired to quick ly attach the lamp, which may be otherwise 5 used in night hunting.

To avoid the objections present in prior constructions, and to secure the desired advantages by a more efficient attachment, I have provided a single attaching member having opposite seats for the gun barrel and flashlight and carrying separate clamps for such parts, secured by a single tensioning device. As the barrels of firearms vary in size and configuration, it is also important to pron vide for the adjustment of the barrel clamp by an interlocking connection between hook and strap. members thereof. Further, the usual flashlights have enlargements at their opposite ends so that the body thereof cannot contact with an associated gun barrel, and to provide proper contacts at such ends the seat members are spaced from each other at their connected faces, which also forms a passage for the clamping bands of both the flashlight and the gun barrel.

The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved flashlight attachment, comprising a su port having oppositely disposed connecte seats for the light and a member of the firearm, with a clamp for the light surrounding the seat thereof and a firearm clamp secured to the light clamp and having a free end connected by a single securing device to the ends of the light clamp.

A further object of the mvention is to provide improved construction, comprising a Serial No. 258,276.

Another object of the invention is to provide a new construction of flashlight attachment, including oppositely disposed curved seats spaced from each other and secured together, together with a clamping band for the flashlight passing intermediate of said seats and a clamping band for the firearm barrel extended intermediate of said seats, the free ends of both clamping devices being aligned and connected by a securing device having a member to rigidly hold the ends of the flashlight clamp and to yieldingly tension one member of the barrel clamp.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims. a

The invention is shown in connection with a gun, but is equally applicable to doublebarreled shotguns, revolvers, and other firearms, it only being necessary that it be attached' beneath the barrel thereof in suchposition as to direct the rays of light toward the object at which the barrel is aimed. The numeral 10 indicates such a firearm and 11 a flashlight or lamp of any desired character which is provided at one end with the usual lens 12, and atthe opposite end with the filling cap 13, these being of greater diameter than the tubular body 14 of the lamp, and 1 consequently bear against the barrel of the firearm, leaving a space at the body portion. Cooperating w1th this body, a segmental seat 15 is provided, connected to an oppositely disposed seat 16 of a similar character for the barrel. These seats are so arated from each other by the In s 17, whic are secured together by means 0 rivets 18 or similar devices, as shown in Figure 3. This structure provides a proper spacing for the body of the lamp from the gun-barrel, and through this space the securing band 19 surrounding body 14 of the lamp is passed, with its free ends 20 disposed at one side. Upon these free ends is disposed the end 21 of a hook member 22, which extends through the space between the seats and is provided with a down-turned bill 23, and cooperating with this bill is a clamping strap 24 apertured at 25 for adjustable connection with the bill and provided at 26 with a tensioning end.

For the purpose of fixedly securing the ends of the clamp surrounding the lamp and the hook member for the gun barrel, I have provided a threaded bolt 27, having thereon a nut 28, which is adjusted to clamp the ends 20 and 21 of the members just mentioned. This bolt extends through an enlarged aperture 29 in the end 26 of the strap 24 and has threaded thereon a wing nut 30 by which tension may be applied to said strap.

The construction shown is very simple and eflicient in application, and provides for the immediate release of the flashlight from the gun barrel by means of the wingnut 30, while the remaining parts will be clamped in position upon the lamp, unless it be desired to release and remove them by adjustment of the nut 28. Owing to the differences in configuration and size of barrels of firearms, ithas been found diflicult to secure any type of clamp which would uniformly fit all conditions, and it became therefore desirable to provide for an adjustment of this clamp by which its diameter ma be materially reduced or increased whi e the tensioning of the strap member will firmly retain the lamp in its adjusted position upon the barrel.

While the specific details of construction have been shown and described, still the invention is not confined thereto, as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit thereof as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a flashlight attachment for firearms. a support having oppositely disposed connected seats for the light and the member of a firearm, said seats being. spaced from each other, a clamp for the light surrounding the body thereof and passing intermediate said seats, a fixed member for the barrel clamp secured to the ends of the light clamp, a strap adjustably connected to said fixed member, and a connecting device extending between the free ends of all of the clamping members.

2. In a flashlight attachment for firearms, a support having oppositely disposed connected seats for the light and the member of a firearm, said seats being spaced from each other, a clamp for the light surrounding the body thereof and passing intermediate said seats, a fixed member for the barrel clamp secured to the ends of the light clamp, a strap adj ustably connected to said fixed memher, a connecting device extending between the free ends of all of the clamping members, a clamping nut upon said device for rigidly connecting the ends of the light clamp and the fixed member of the barrel clamp, and an adjustable member upon said device bearing upon the free end of the barrel strap.

3. In a flashlight attachment for firearms, a light clamp surrounding the same and having horizontally projected ends at one side, a hooked member for the barrel clamp secured to said projected ends and having a down-turned bill, and an apertured strap adjustably engaged with said bill and having a free end parallel with the ends of the light clamp.

4. In a flashlight attachment for firearms, a light clamp surrounding the same and having horizontall projected ends at one side, a hooked mem er for the barrel clamp secured to said projected ends and having a down-turned bill, an apertured strap adjustably engaged with said bill and having a free end parallel with the ends of the light clamp, a threaded bolt extending through the free ends of the several clamps, a nut upon said bolt rigidly connecting the ends of the light clamp and the hook member, and an adjustable wing nut upon said bolt bearing upon the free end of the barrel strap.
