.Application led November This invention relates to toboggan slides and toboggans where the toboggan is adapted to coast for some distance after leaving the end of the slide. The invention, asl will be hereinafter disclosed, is applicable either to water toboggans or toboggans or sleds adapted to run over ice and snow.
lt is the main object of this invention to provide a toboggan slide and toboggan or sled adapted to run thereon of simple but highly eflicient construction provided with guide means for preventing both lateral or upward displacement of the toboggan from the slide.
lt is a more specific object to provide a track or slide having rectilinear outer edges or flanges at the sides thereof, and a toboggan or sled mounted on wheels and having depending guide means at eith'er side thereof, disposed at the sides of said flanges .of the slide, to prevent lateral displacement of the toboggan or sled therefrom.
It is an additional object to` provide said depending` guide means with inwardly exor heads adapted to underlie the outer rectilinear flanges of the track to prevent upward displacement or jumping of the toboggan from the track.
it is also an object of the invention to pro-` vide a highly efficient structure for mounting a plurality of relatively small wheels to project slightly below the bottom of the frame of the toboggan.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a portion of the slide or supporting surface with a form of the invention mounted thereon;

Fig. S is a plan view of this form of toboggan detached from the slide. ln the form of the invention illust-rated in Figs. to a, inclusive, which form is especially adapted forvuse in water toboggans, a fiat runway or traclr is illustrated by the numeral 5 having the rectilinear outer flanges 5a at either side thereof. Angle bars 6 covering the side and under surfaces ofthe flanges 5a are preferably employed, although the same may be omitted, if desired. The track 5 is supported by means of the parallel spaced and edgewise disposed inclined supporting members 7 mounted on standards 8, members being connected at intervals by means of the transverse bars 9 secured therebetween. A toboggan or sled, designated as an entirety by the letter A, is adapted to run or slide on thetrack 5 and compresses two pairs of longitudinal frame members or rails 10, with the pairs of rails spaced from each other at either side of the toboggan and having up-turned forward portions. A plurality of spaced transverse ribs 1,1 are secured across the frame members 10 on the under side thereof, under which members 11 a plurality of elongated slats 12 are secured having the upturned for- `ward` portions corresponding substantially to the shape-of frame members 10. A riders platform is formed on the upper side of the toboggan by means of a plurality of straight slats 13 secured across the upper sides of transverse ribs 11 and falling short of the forward end of the frame members 10. The frame members 10, at the outer sides of the tobog gan, are provided with a plurality of longitudinally disposed slots 1()a providing hand grips for the rider. Transversely aligned bearings are provided at the forward and rear ends of the frame secured to the under sides of the four frame members 10. These bearings 14C are preferably in the form of maple blocks which have been previously soaked in oil. Between each pair of said bearings 14, a relatively short axle 15 is jour naled having pinned or rigidly secured thereto a wheel 16 projecting slightly below the bottom slats 12 and adapted to run on the track 5. Vlheels 16, being keyed or rigidly secured to axles 15 and disposed between bearings 14 and the spaced frame members l0, obviously prevent displacement of the axles i5 from the bearings. v
Guide members are provided at either side of the toboggan A in the form of depending are adapted to engagethe outer edges of said* flanges 5a. In the preferred forni of the invention illustrated in Figs to 8, inclusive, which is Vespecially applicable to snow or ice toboggans, although capable of being employed in water toboggans, the track and supportingl means thereforis similar to the modified` form hitherto described. The track is, therefore, indicated by the numeral 5 having rectilinear outer flanges 5"L at either side thereof and 'supported byrineains ofthe parallel `spaced and'edgeivise disposed supporting members 7 mounted on standardsS. The rectilinear outer flanges 5a, however, preferably have relatively narrow strips or railsv18 secured Vto their top surfaces although the same may be omitted if'desired.

Anelongated frame member 21, having an upturned 'forward end, is secured to the under side of ribs 2O atV each side of the sled 'B beneath the respective outer frame members 19 forming the runners of the sled or toboggan. A riders platform isformed by means of a plurality of slats 22 secured across the upper sides'of transverse ribs 11 and falling short of the forward end of frame members 19. Bearings 23 are provided, similar to the bearings 14 described in the modified forni -of the invention,` secured to the fundersides ofthe four frame members 19 and v between said framemembers and the runners 21. vlfVheels l24 are journaled inV each pair of adjacent bearings and keyed or rigidlyV secured to axles 25. Likewise, the toboggan or sled in either case Will not be `able to jump the track,` being held to the flanged portions 5a by means of theV lugs 26, or, in the case of toboggan A, bymeans of the inturned flanges 17a` on the guide stripsll'.
ln the toboggan or sled B, the runners 21v smooth undersurface thereof, formed by means of the slats 12, Will permit the toboggan to coast over the'ivater a considerable distance after leaving the end of the slide.
The construction of the frame members'of both forms of the invention and the mountings for the vWheels hitherto described provides vnot only protection for the rider but an extremely smooth, freely ruiming amusement device.
From the above description it Will be seen that the applicant has invented a simple but etiicient toboggan slide and toboggan capable of withstanding hard usage and equipped with novel means to provide a high degree of safety to the riders. Actual usage has shownV the devicesto be highly successful for the purposes intended ous changes mayv be made in the form, 'de-` tails, proportions and Aarrangement of parts Without departing from the scope of the invention. y

In a toboggan slide, the combination with an inclined track having flanged rectilinear outer edges, of a toboggan or sled oomprising a frame having elongated side me1nbers, wheels adapted to run on said track and mounted on said frame inwardly of said side members, substantially vertically 'disposed guide members carried byV said side members and extending,` below the flanges of said track and inwardly extendingmembers adjacent the lower ends of said guide members adapted to underlie the flanges of said track and be spaced therefrom.
