The invention relates to side frames and Still another object of the invention is -to journal box mountings forming part of railway cartrucks particularly adapted for use in connection ithfreight cars.
The principal object of the invention, generally stated, is to provide a side frame having spring means for mounting the j ournal boxes thereon, the spring means acting to reduce car roll, eliminate vertical j iggle and increase the presentspring capacity of trucks.
An important ob ect of the lnven'ti'on is to provide a side frame in which thejournal boxes are supported by purcly flexible means,
there being an absence of rigid connection between th'ejournal boxes and the major portion or relatively stationary part of the side frame so as to obtain theimaximum resilience for accomplishing the desired results;
The object of the invention, more specifically stated, is to provide a side frame having cantilever spring means for supporting the ournal boxes with respect to the r gid portion of the side frame, in combination with other supporting means acting to prevent movement of the journal boxes in any direc tion other than vertical.
' A specific object ofthe invention is to provide novel means for securing the cantilever springs to the rigid portion of the side frame.
Another object of the inventionis to 'pro vide a truck side frameembodying a central rigid portion Within which is mounted the bolster supported by the usual springs, and further including journal boxes connected at their tops with the outer ends ofcantile'ver springs secured to the main. or rigid portion of the side frame andconnected'at their hottoms with memberspivoted'to the rigid portion ofthe side, said last named connecting members or pivoted connecting members being adapted to flex and assist the cantilever springs during vertical movement of the journal boxes with respect'to the rigid portion of the side frame during car travel.
Still another object ofthe'invention is the provision of a side frame of this character in which the ournal boxes are so mountedwith respect to the rigid portion of 'theiside frame as to prevent any play whatsoever other than the desired vertical movement, the absence of vantages in view the invention jre'ferably consists in the com'binationand arrangement of parts and the detailed formation to be hereinafter more fully described and 'claimed and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings in which: I

Broadly;"considered, the structure com tain details of formation of the parts, it should be understood that the disclosure is merely an exemp'lification of the general principles involved and that the right is-re-' served to make all such changes in the combination and arrangement of parts and the details of construction asj-w'ill not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a truck side frame, the combination of a rigid central frame member, journal boxes located beyond the opposite side edges thereof, and separatespring members carried by said frame member and carrying the respective journal boxes. 7 7
2. In a truck side frame, the combination of a central rigid frame member, journal boxes located beyond the opposite side edges thereof in entirely spaced relation thereto, and separate cantilever springs carried by said frame member and secured to the re spective journal boxes.
3. In a truck slde frame, the combinationof a rigid central frame member, journal boxes located beyond the opposite side edges thereof in spaced relation thereto, separate jcantilever springs secured to the frame member and carrying the respective journal boxes and flexible supporting members projecting from said frame member and secured to the journal boxes.
4. In a truck side frame, the combination of a central rigid frame member, journal boxes located in spaced relation thereto at the opposite side edges thereof, separate banks of elongated plate springs carried by the frame member and engaging upon the tops of the respective journal boxes, and brace members movably mounted upon the frame memher at opposite side'edges thereof and connected withthe bottoms of the journal boxes. In a truck side frame, a central rigid frame member, journal boxes located beyond opposite sides of the frame member, cantilever springs rigidly secured to the frame member and secured at the tops of the journal boxes, and supporting members secured to the undersides of the ournal boxes and pivoted to the frame member.
6. In a truck side frame, a main frame member of rigid formation provided with sockets at its upper corners, cantilever' members.
7. In a truck side frame, a mainframe sockets at member of rigid formation provided with its upper corners, cantilever springs secured within said sockets and'projecting beyond the opposite side edges of the frame member, supporting members pivoted to said frameanember and'projectingbeyondopposite side e'dges thereof beneath and in spaced relation to the springs, and journal boxes mounted between the outer ends of the springs and the outer ends of said supporting member and rigidly secured thereto.
8. In a truck side frame, a rigid frame member, cantilever spring means secured to the upper portion thereof and projecting beyond the opposite side edges thereof, journal boxes secured beneath said spring means at the free ends thereof and vertically movable with respect to said frame member, and movable means rigidly secured to the bottom portions of the-journal boxes and connecting the same with said frame to confine the movement of the journal boxes to a vertical direction. 9. In a truck side frame, a rigid frame member formed at its upper corners with sockets and having extensions at the sockets, cantilever springs engaged'within said sockets and projecting beyond the side edges of the frame member, meanscarried by said extensions for securing the springs in the sockets, and journal boxes carried by the free ends of the springs,
10. In a truck side frame, a rigid frame member formed at itsupper corners with sockets and having extensions'a-t the sockets, cantilever springs engaged within said sockets and projecting beyond the side edges of the frame member, means carried by said extensions for securing the springs in the sockets, and ournal boxes earned by the free ends of the springs and located therebeneath.
11. In a truck side frame, arigid frame member having a window opening therein for the reception of a truck-bolster and bolster supporting springs, said frame member being formed with sockets atits opposite side edges, cantilever springs engaged within said sockets,n'1eans carried by saidframe member for clamping the springs within the sockets,
journal boxes carried by the free ends of the springs, and supporting members secured to the journal boxes and pivoted to said frame member. 7 i
