T his invention relates to new and useful improvements in shoe 'polishdaubers, and has for its primary object to provide a dauber wherein the handle thereof is in the form of a polish receptacle, and wherein means is provided for permitting a certain quantity of the polish to be forced from the receptacle into the dauber bristles, so that the same may be properly applied to the shoe.
A' further and important object is to provide a fountain shoe polish dauber of this character wherein the flow of the polish to the dauber bristles is normally prevented and wherein means directly adjacent the handle of the dauber is provided for actuating certain mechanism for forcibly discharging a predetermined amount of ti e polish WVit-h the foregoing and other objects that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fountain shoe polish dauber constructed in accordance with the present invention, a protecting cap being disclosed as positioned over the head of the dauber.

Figure 3 is a transverse section taken substantially upon the line 8-3 of Figure 1 and looking downwardly in the direction of the arrows.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel dauber consists of a handle 5 in the form of a receptacle of cylindrical form having a reduced threaded neck 6.
I Threadedly arranged within this neck is a threaded sleeve 7 within the lower end of which is arranged a head 7 for bristles 8, within which is centrally arranged a short tube 9 so as to permit the fluid polish within the handle 5 to flow therethrough into the bristles of the head in an obvious manner.
Rectilinearly movable within the sleeve 7 in back of said head 7* is a plunger 10 fixed upon the inner end of a plunger rod 11 that extends through the tube 9 and at a predetermined point beyond the end of the tube said rod is bent rearwardly and extends through the bristles and upwardly alongside of the handle 5 and is equipped at its end with a thumb knob 12.
Surrounding the rod 11 between the head 7* and said plunger 10 is an expansible coil spring 13 for normally maintaining the plunger in the position disclosed in Figure 2. For limiting the upward movement of the plunger within the handle, the extreme.
innerend of the sleeve 7 is formed with spaced inwardly projecting lugs 14l,the ends of which are turned over onto theplunger as clearly indicated in Figure 3. In this position the fluid polish within the handle 5 is permitted to flow between the lugs so as to enter the sleeve 7, which in reality forms a cylinder for said plunger.
Fixed to the plunger rod 11 adjacent the pointofbendthereofis one end of an expansible coil spring 15 to the opposite end of which is attached a disc 16 that serves as a valve for closing the lower end of the tube 9 when the plunger and rod are in the position indicated in Figure 2 for obviously preventing the fluid from flowing through said tube.
When it is desired to project a quantity of fluid into the bristles, the thumb plate 12 is depressed so that the plunger 10 will be actuated to forcibly discharge the fluid from the said cylinder. Byreason of the pressure, the disc 16 will be forced away from the tube 9 so as not to interfere with the passage of the fluid through said tube.
Arranged in the sleeve 7 adjacent to the wall thereof and extending through the head 7 and the joined ends of the bristles is an elongated filler tube 17 the outer end of which is at the side of the bristles, while the inner end extends through a notch in the plunger and is equipped at the extreme inner end with a normally closed spring influenced lid 18.
Obviously when the brush is turned over, the polish may be forced through the tube 17 so as to charge the handle 5 with a supply thereof.
The device further consists of an elongated cylindrical cap 19 for disposition over the inner end of the brush, the inner end of said cap being provided with an elongated slot 20 through which the actuating end of the plunger rod 11 will pass so as not to interfere with the disposition of the lid upon the brush head.
In View of the foregoing description considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be apparent that I have provided a highly novel, simple and efiicient fountain shoe polish dauber that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patents is 1- A device for the purpose described comprising a fluid receptacle, a neck atone end of said receptacle, a sleeve fixed within said neck, a headalso fixed to the sleeve and arranged at the outer end thereof, a piston movable rectilinearly within the sleeve and normally disposed at the inner end thereof, said sleeve formed at its inner end to permit a supply of fluid to flow from the receptacle beneath the piston when the latter is in its normal or innermost position, a fluid discharge tube extending through the head and communicating at its inner end with the fluid space beneath said piston, a spring pressed disc normally maintaining the tube closed, a rod connected with .said piston and disc and extending through said tube, a spring surrounding the rod and interposed between the head and the piston, and means adjacent to the fluid receptacle and externally thereof and connected with said rod whereby said piston may be forced downwardly within the sleeve for forcing the fluid therein outwardly through said tube.
