Description

S. HAUCK, Jr"
VEGETABLE-CUTTER No,169,991 Patented Nov. 16, 1875.
F W Q ITNQSES I I N.PE[ERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEE WASHINGTON, D C.
a UNITED STATES PATENT SAMUEL HAUGK, JR, OF LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO ALFRED B. HAUOK, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEGETABLE-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169.991, dated November 16, 1875; application filed September 30, 1575.
To all whom it may concern I ters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my vege' table-cutter, and Fig. 2 is an end view thereof.
This invention has relation to machines which are designed for slicing.
The nature of my invention consists, first, in a sliding holder, subdivided by a movable partition, and which is guided by means of antifriction rollers, working in grooved ways on each side of a bed, on which knives are applied for slicing material placed in said holder, as will be hereinafter more fully explained; second, the invention further consists in combining, with the sliding holderabove' referred to, an elastic wiper for clearing the bed, and pre venting the escape of the material which is being sliced; third, in combining, with the reciprocatin g holder and the guides for the same, an elastic cushi0n,which will prevent shocks at the termination of the forward strokes of the said holder; fourth, in the employment, in combination with the cutter hereinafter described, of two knives, which are adjustal'ile simultaneously by a single screw, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A represents the bed of my improved machine, which may be mounted on legs, as shown. B B designate two grooved ways, rising perpendicularly from said bed, which'are parallel to each other. G 0 designate cuttingblades, which are diagonal to the grooved ways, and which are secured to bars a to, applied in an opening made through the bed A. To the bars a a metallic straps b b are secured, which extend back, and have their ends slotted' to receive the threadless end of a thumb-screw, D, which screw is tapped through a plate, 0, secured to a bracket beneath the bed A. By turning the screw D the two cutting-blades can be adj usted, and set to cut any desired thickness of slice.
The material to be cut is moved back and forth over'thc bedA by placing itin a holder, G, which is guided within the grooved ways B B by means of anti-friction rollers 6. At the extremity of this holder elastic wipers ff are secured, which play upon the surface of the bed A, and not only prevent the escape of the material being cut, butalso keep the bed clean. The sides h of the holder G extend a short dis tance beyond the wiper f, and impinge, at the termination of each forward stroke of the holder, against a cushion, g, fixed to one end of the bed A, thereby preventing i njurious shocks and percussions. Inside of the holderis a removable vertical partition, J, which divides the receptacle for the material to be sliced into two apartments, and thus reduces the capacity of the receptacle.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I. In a vegetablecutter, the reciprocating holder G, divided by a movable partition, J, and guided by means of antifriction rollers a, working in grooved ways B B, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a holder, G, and the SAMUEL HAUOK, Jn.
