In Figs. y10, 11 and,l2, a somewhat modified formof elevating means is shown as including acam 7 turnable-on apivot 8X as by means of a lever 9X; `the cam 7X in its lowermostportionis limited by any suitable A stop as apin or shoulder 2X.

What is claimed is:
1. A valve grinder comprising a a shaft mounted upon said support, two gears of different sizes mounted upon said shaft, a spindle parallel to said shaft, a gear rotatably mounted and meshing with one of the gears on said shaft, said gear being slidably keyed to said saindle, a second gear rotatable aboutthe spindle and meshing with the other gear on said shaft, means providing a projection upon the second gear, a cam secured to the spindle adapted to be engaged by the projection to produce axial movement of the spindle, and means for rotating said shaft.
2. A valve grinder comprising a support, a shaft mounted upon said support, tivo gears of different sizes mounted upon said shaft, a spindle parallel to said shaft, a
gear rotatably mounted and meshing Withv one of the gears on said shaft, said gear being slidably keyed to said spindle, a second gear rotatable about the spindle and meshing With the other gear on said shaft, means providing a projection upon the second gear, a cam secured to the spindle adapted to be engaged by the projection to produce axial movement of the spindle, means for rotating said shaft, and spring means for urging the spindle into a predetermined position.
3. A valve grinder comprising a support, ay shaft rotatably mounted upon said support, means for rotating said shaft, a gear support,
rotatable upon the support having a projecting hub, a spindle slidably keyed to said gear, a second gear rotatable upon the hub, gear means upon the shaft for rotating said gears, a cam carried by the spindle, and means providing a projection upon the second gear adapted to engage the cam so as to produce axial sliding of the spindle.

A valve grinder comprising a support, a shaft rotatably mounted upon said support, means for rotating said shaft, a gear rotatable upon the support having a projecting hub, a spindle slidably keyed to said gear, a second gear' rotatable upon the hub, gear means upon the shaft for rotating said gears, a cam carried by the spindle, means providing a projection upon the second gear adapted to engage the cam so as to produce axial sliding of the spindle, and spring means for urging the spindle into a predetermined position.
5. A valve grinder comprising a support, a shaft rotatably mounted upon said support, means for rotating said shaft, a gear rotatable upon the support having a projectinghub, a spindle slidably keyed to said gear, a second gear rotatable upon the hub, gear means upon the shaft for rotating said gears, a cam carried by the spindle, means providing a projection upon the second gear adapted to engage the cam so as to produce axial sliding of the spindle, and spring means for urging the spindleinto a predetermined position, said spring means bearing upon said cam.
