- DIE.
Application filed October 27, 192 7. Seiral No. 229,120.
This invention .relates to dies for forming threads on members, the general object of the invention being to provide a die of cylindrical shape, with openings therein which are separated by portions which carry the threads for cutting the threads in a member to be threaded. I
Another object of the invention is to make the inner walls of the thread carrying members of tapered shape and to make the threads therein of gradually increasing depth so that the cutting action will be a gradual one.
This invention also consists in certain other features oi construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
in describing my invention in detail, referonce will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is an elevation showing the die in use.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig ure 4.
Figure 3 is a section on line of Figure 4:. I
Figure 4t is a section on line 4-4 ure As shown in these views, the die 1 is of cylindrical shape and intermediate its ends is i ormed with an annular row of openings 2 which are spaced apart to leave the posts 3. The mouth of the die is of greater diameter than the lower portion thereof and the interior wall tapers inwardly and downwardly from a point above the openings to a point below the openings, as shown at 5. The inner walls of the posts 2 are formed with the cutting teeth 6 for forming the threads on the member A. to be threaded these teeth being of gradually increasing depth, as shown.
The front wall of each shown at 7 in Figure through the lower p ends resting in hole the die.
post is inclined, as 4. A pin 8 passes art of the die and has its s formed in this part of threads on pipes and the like, the cutting teeth zeing carried by narrow parts which are sep arated r;
in each other so that the material cut from the member being threaded can drop out, thus enabling threads to be cut with little effort.
I. It is thought from the foregoing tion that the advantages and novel descripfeatures of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A die of the class a cylindrical membe of openings therein 1 openings forming described comprising r having an annular row ntermediate 1ts ends, said posts between them, the
interior walls of the posts being provided with cutting teeth member inserted in for cutting threads in a the die.
2. A die of the class described comprising a cylindrical membe ot openings therein 1 r having an annular row ntermediate its ends, said openings forming posts between them, the interior walls ot the posts being provided with cutting teeth member inserted in for cutting threads in a the die, the posts having inwardly and downwardly sloping interior walls and the teeth on said walls being of gradually increasing depth. l
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LENA MORITSKY.
