UNITED s'r GEORGE E. HULEAN, OF NEW YORK, N.

Application filed June 9,1927. Serial No. 197,546.
This invention relates to fabrics and particularly to textile fabrics of one or more plies of the same or difi'erent materials selected to meet specific conditions in connection with the manufacture ofa light wei ht helmet or hatadapted for use in warm 0 imates or as a sport hat.
moisture and'the light and heat of the rays of the summay be attained together with a consistency and-finish which will permit of the application of'gum, dextrine, glue, flour, or the like, for the purpose of giving a body or stifi'ening effect, which will cause the helmet or hat to retain the shape into which it has been blocked.
A preferred form of the material is shown in the drawing of the three ply fabric, the same being a plan view of the layers, broken away to disclose the separate layers and drawn to an enlarged scale. 1
Int-his drawing one bf the ,outer layers designated by the numeral 5, is preferably made of an artificial fibre,- such' for instance as rayon, supplying a. surface that can be colored, as for instance,- green or other color restful to the eyes when used onthe under side of the brim of a hat.
The intermediate layer 6 may be of cotton or like firm fabric. impervious to sunlight and providing a body to the finished product.
\ The upper-layer! is preferably of linen to give strength and wearing qualities, susceptible of being coated with a waterproofing substance, as a transparent lacquer giving a 40 fine appearance.
These several layers are intimately secured together by a suitable adhesive into a sheet to be eventually blanked, blocked and st'ifiened for the purpose desired.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a new fabric has been disclosed for the purpose set forth, and that the same, due to the com-. bined properties of each ply, is exceptionally appropriate for such purpose.
it will be apparent that substitution of corresponding material in the triple ply structure and method of combining the several plies, 55 may be made within the scope and spirit of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let'- ters Patent, is: o
A fabric comprising a ply of regenerated cellulose fiber, a ply of linen, and an intermediate ply of Gotten, all of the said plies being individually woven and combined into a single sheet, the said regenerated cellulose 65 fibre ply being adapted to be'colored'tga tint restful to the eyes of the wearer, the said intermediate cotton ply being impervious to light and heat, and the said linen ply being v waterproofed. Y 7 7a In testimony whereof I fixed my signature.
