Application filed July 1, 1927. Serial No. 202,964.
The invention has relation to fly screens having for an object the provision of an improved screen frame and screen of this description wherein the screen frame is adj ustable to fit any ordinary opening and the wire cloth is removably stretched thereover. Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as set forth in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, Figure l is a front view of the invention as applied; Figure 2 is a cross section of one side of the same; Figure 3 is a detail frontview of the main frame and supplemental frame, detached from each other, and Figure 4. is a detail perspective view of one of the spring strips partly broken away. 1 v In these drawings the numeral 1 designates the screen frame, comprising two laterally extensible sections composed of metal rails of channel form in cross section, the upper and lower or horizontal rails having slidable interfitting engagement with each other.
The outer wall 3 of the channeled rails is I inclined inwardly relative to the opposed inner wall, whereby the channel 4 is contracted at its outer open end 5, and the angular juncture 6 of said wall 3 with the facing wall 7 of said rail is undercut.
This channel 4. is substantially continuous peripherally of the screen frame at the inner margin thereof, and the wire cloth 8 being out provided. at its inner extremity with a plurality of teeth 12 projecting or struck inwardly therefrom so that as the strip 9 is pressed inwardly these teeth engage the wire therewith as shown in Figure 1 to form ascreen frame for the entire window opening, these supplementary sections being composed of channeled metal rails having interfitting sliding engagement as described for the main screen frame.
The frame being adjusted to the proper size for the opening, suitable means may be used to fix the adjustment, such as set screws or the like.
The main frame for the lower half of the window opening maybe used alone, or if desired the supplementary framesections may be used also to provide a screen for the en tire window opening.
The screen frame has its facing flange 7 extending entirely around the same, and adapted to abut against and be flush with the bead 15 of the window casing, thereby preventing passage of insects.
I claim In a window screen frame, a channeled frame member, having opposed walls at an for stretching wire cloth over said frame" member, including a spring strip .of U-form in cross section having opposite lateral flanges fitting within the channel of said frame member, one of said flanges of each strip having a plurality of spring tongues snapping behind said shoulder and the other flange having a plurality of teeth engaging the wire cloth. 7
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. JOSEPH E. KING, JR.
