NONREFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Application led October 6, 1927, Serial This invention relates to a non-reillable bottle.
One important object of the invention is to provide an improved form of non-refillable bottle wherein the neck of the bottle contains a novel construction of cylindrical valve casing.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved and novel arrangement of internal and external cylinders in such a device, the internal cylinder having lateral ports opening into a space between the two cylinders.
A third important object of the invention is to provide an improved arrangement of valves controlling the passage of liquid through the cylinders.
A fourth important object of the invention is the provision of a novel structureot such cylinders and valves so arranged as to cause the liquid to flow through the neck of the bottle in upper and lower lateral directions.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:

In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 7 the bottle 10 is provided with a neck 11 and adjacent the top of the neck there is a lateral flange 12 having an upstanding peripheral wall 13. This wall projects above the top of the neck 11 and in the inner surface of the wall is formed a notch like groove 14 having an abrupt shoulder at the top and tapering inwardly on its other side. In the neck of the bottle is fitted an outer cylinder 15 having a iiange 16 at its top from which depends a skirt 17 provided on its exterior with a notch 18 wherein fits a spring ring 19 which, when the outer cylinder is'inserted, snaps into the `groove 14 and locks the outer cylinder against removal. It will be noted that the top of this outer cylinder is slightly below the upper edge of the wal-l 13 to prevent removal by a thin tool. The outer cylinder is closed at the top by a partition 20 having a central port 21 which may be closed by a stopper 22 il' desired. This outer cylinder receives the inner cylinw der which consists of a. lower part 23 lit-ting closely in the outer cylinder, and an upper part 24 oit considerably smaller diameter than the lower part so as to leave an annular passage 25 between the wall of the outer and inner cylinders at the upper part of the lat-- ter. The inner cylinder is hollow but is closed at the top, this top being spaced below the partition 20 so that a valve disk 261 Vhaving a central port 27 may be held in the space over the top of the inner cylinder. This disk has a skirt 28 which lits in the `passage 25 when the valve is closed but lifts cl-ear of that passage when the valve is open so that liquid may flow from the passage 25 through the ports 27 and 21. The upper part ot the inner cylinder is provided with a frusto-coni`cal chamber 29 which communicates with the passage 25 through ports 30 in the side walls of the innerV cylinder. Closingthe lower end of the inner cylinder is a diaphragm 31 having a port 32, the diaphragm forming a valve seat. Tn the chamber 33 at the lower end of the inner cylinder moves a valve having' a cylindrical body 34 provided with a conoidal lower end 35 fitting the port 30 when the valve is in closed position. On this valve body is a pair of spaced flanges 36 and 37 and the upper flange 36 is provided with spaced radial projections 38 which thus form a series of arcuate ports between the flange proper and the wall of the inner cylinder. The lower flange 37 is provided with radial slots 39 also forming ports. In the trust-oconical chamber is a ball 40.
In pouring with this form oit the device liquid will flow through the port 3&2, the valve 34 being raised, and will then pass through the slots 39 into the space between the two flanges. From there it will pass through a port 4l into the hollow port-ion 42 of the valve and from thence into the chamber 29. From there it will flow out through the ports 30, passage 25 and ports 27 and 21.
In the form of the invention shown in Figure 9 the construction is much the same but the valve 26 is dispensed wit-h and on the upper end of the inner cylinder portion 24 is formed an annular flange or wall 43 so that there is provided a recess or chamber 44 open at the top and into this recess or chamber there extends from the diaphragm or partition 2O a pipe 45. In this forni it will be seen that, just as in the other, it is impossible to manipulate the lower valve by a wire as the passage is too tortuous.
In the form shown in Figures 10 and l1 the construction is somewhat different. In this form the beveled groove or notch 46, having the same purpose as the notch 14, is formed in a thickened portion 47 of the bottle neck, the notch being inside of the neck. The outer casing has a body portion 48 provided with a groove 49 wherein fits a snap expansion ring 50 which, when the outer casing is inserted in the bottle neck, snaps into the groove 46. Furthermore, the bott-le neck fits in an annular groove 5l extending up` ward from the underside of a flange 52 at the top of the outer casing. The interior construction of this form is the same vas that illustrated in Figure 2' and the operation is alike in all cases. It will be noted that if' any attempt is made to fill the bottle by placing it with its axis horizontal the ball 40 will move toward the larger end of' the frustoconical part of the chamber and force the valve 34 shut.
There has thus been provided a. simple and eliicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof; It is not, therefore, de-
sired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. In a non-refillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing fitting within the neck of a bottle and immovably secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall of the outer casing and provided with lateral ports, a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, and an upwardly opening check valve controlling the port in the lower closure of the outer casing.
2. In a non-refillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing fitting within the neck of a bottle and immovab-ly secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical. casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall of the outer casing and provided with lateral ports, a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, said inner casing having a frusto-conical chamber in its upper end and a cylindrical chamber in its lower end of greater diameter than the frusto-conical chamber, a valve in said cylindrical chamber controlling the port in the lower closure of the outer casing, and a loose ball in the frustoconical chamber assisting in closing the last mentioned valve.
3. In a non-refillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing fitting within the neck of a bottle and immovably secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall ofthe outer casing and provided with lateral ports. a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, said inner casing having a truste-conical chamber in its upper end and a cylindrical chamber in its lower end of greater diameter than the frusto-conical chamber, a valve in said cylindrical chamber controlling the port inthe lower closure of the outer casing, said valve consisting of a cylindrical body having a pair of spaced flanges, the lower end of the body closing said port, the lower flange having port slots therein, the body having an opening extending from its upper end downwardly and being provided with a port opening between the flanges, and a loose ball in the frusto-conical chamber assisting in closing the last mentioned valve.
4. In a non-refillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing fitting within the neck of a bottle and immovably secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall ofthe outer casing and provided with lateral ports, a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, said valve consisting ofi' a ported disk extending over the upper end of the inner casing and provided with a peripheral flange movable into and out of said space, and an upwardly opening check valve controlling the port in the lower closure of the outer casing.
5. In a non-relillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing fitting within the neck of a bottle and immovably secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall of the outer casing and provided with lateral ports, a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, said valve consisting of a ported disk extending over the upper end of the inner casing and providedl with a peripheral fiange movable into and out of said space, said inner casing having a truste-conical chamber in its upper end and a cylindrical chamber in its lower end ot' greater diameter than the frusto-conical chamber, a valve in said cylindrical chamber controlling the port in the lower closure of the outer casing, and a loose ball in the frustoconical chamber assisting in closing the last mentioned valve.
6. In a non-reiillable bottle, an outer cylindrical casing iitting within the neck of a bottle and immovably secured therein, said outer casing having upper and lower closures each provided with a port, an inner cylindrical casing fixed within the outer casing and having its upper end spaced from the wall of the outer casing and provided with lateral ports, a valve controlling the space between the inner and outer casings, said valve consisting of a ported disk extending over the upper end of the inner casing and provided with a peripheral fla-nge movable into and out of. said space, said inner casing having a frusto-conical chamber in its upper end and a cylindrical chamber in its lower end of greater diameter than the frusto-conical chamber, a valve in said cylindrical chamber controlling the port in the lower closure of the outer casing, said valve consisting of a cylindrical body having a pair of spaced flanges, the lower end of the body closing said port, the lower flange having port slots therein, the body having an opening` extending from its upper end downwardly and being provided with a port opening between the flanges, and a loose ball in the frusto-conical chamb-er assisting in closing the last mentioned valve.
7. In a non-refillable bottle having a neck provided with a mouth end, a hollow cylinder fixed in said neck and secured against removal, said cylinder having an upper end of less diameter than thelower end and closed at said upper end, said cylinder having lateral ports in the reduced end, a. ported valve seat at the lower end, a valve opening and closing said port, a star shaped valve between said valve and the upper part of said cylinder, an outer hollow cylinder receiving the first cylinder and locked to the neck, Said outer cylinder having its upper end provided with a centrally ported partition, and a valve on top of said reduced end of the inner cylinder and provided with a skirt fitting around the inner cylinder in closed position.
