Description
U NTTED STATES JOHN P. CONNELL, OF KENSINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-BELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,675, dated November 9, 1875; applicated tiled October 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. GONNELL, of Kensington, in the countyr of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improved Gong-Bell, of which the following is a specitication, reference being had `to the accornpanying` drawing, which isa View looking upon that side of thebase-plate which carries the operating mechanism, the common con cave sonliding-shell being removed. i
' This a double-stroke bell. It may be made a single stroke by asiniple change hereinafter explained.
The letter a denotes the baseplate; b, a post rising therefrom, on which the sounding-shell (not shown) is secured; c, the hammer pivoted on pin or screw d. eis a stop, which prevents the hammer from vibrating too far in either direction; f, a bar, having reciprocating movement, being hung in a lnortise, g, indicated by dotted lilies; la, a spring, throwing bar j' inward; z' i, pins on bar f, taking between them the arinj coming from the hammer; 7c, a pullwire.
The drawing represents the working parts in the normal position of rest. To strike the bell the operator draws upon the pull-Wire, which throws the hammerover tothe position shown in dotted lines, and the hammer there' strikes and sounds the bell. The operator letting go the pull-wire, the spring returns the hammer to its first position, where it again strikes and sounds the bell.
By so locating the stop e that the hammer cannot strike the bell when first thrown over, the bell can be made single-stroke.
I claim as my' invention- In combination, the pivoted hammer c, bearing the arm j. the reciprocating bar f, bearing the pins i t', and the spring la, all arranged and operating substantially as shown and described.
JOHN P. CONNELL.
