This invention relates to dishwashers and aims to provide a device so constructed that dishes may be placed therein and thoroughly sprayed to wash, cleanse and sterilize the same. y
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character including a pump having communication with the interior of the container or body portion of the device so that upon operation of the pump, the liquid in the container may be drawn into the pump and forced into the container in a fine spray, to accomplish the pur-V pose of the invention. y.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a rack for supporting'dishes within the container in such a way that the surfaces of the dishes to be cleaned will be supported directly in front of the openings through which the iuid is sprayed.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a rack of this character which may be readily and easily removed so that larger articles such as bowls, churns or the like may by supported over the discharge end of the spray pipe, for cleansing purposes.
'With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made wit-hin the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a dishwashing machine constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the machine, the cover being removed.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view with the rack and bottom removed.
Figure 4 is a fragmental sectional view through the valve housing and valves.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the
reference character 5 designates the body portion or container, which is preferably circular in cross section, however, the size and shape of the device may be varied to meet various requirements of use. p
This container 5 is supported by means of the legs 6 which are formed at the ends of the bars 7 that are in turn secured to the bottom of the container 5 as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawings. Within the container 5 and secured to the inner surface thereof, are bracket members 8 that have inwardly extended end portions 9 defining rests for the removable bottom 10, whichy is of a construction to closely lit within the container. rlhese inwardly extended end portions of the brackets are arranged in spaced relation with the bottom 11 of the container deiining a space at the bottom of the container for containing water to be forced through the spray pump by the pump to be hereinafter more fully described.

Connecting the members 13 and 14 are wires which are formed with vertical portions 15 and downwardly extended loop portions 16 arranged throughout their lengths, the loop portions 1G of adjacent wires beingy in alignment with each other so that dishes i may be placed therein and supported in upright positions so that the water sprayed through the pipe will contact with the Hat surfaces of the plates or dishes supported within the container.
In order that the dish rack may be readily removed, a bail 17 is provided, the same being connected with the upper circular member 141 and so constructed that when the cover is removed, the bail may be grasped by the iands of the person using the device, and readily removed for cleaning purposes, or for adapting the device for use in cleaning larger articles such as churns, bowls or the like.
The pump which is indicated by the reference character 18 is supported exteriorly of the container 5 and has communication with the container 5, through the extension 19, which provides a valve housing' for the check valves 2O and 21. The valve housing 19 is divided by the wall 20 defining a passageway 21 through which fluid may pass to the valve 20, on the downstroke of the pump. As shown, the lower wall of the valve housing -is spaced fromthe bottom 11 of the container 5, the lower wall kof the valve housing 19 being indicated at 22,.and deiines'an intake' passageway 23 with the lower wall or bottom 11 of the container, so that upon the upstrolre of the pump water may be drawn into the pump to lie-forced into the container, upon the downstrolre thereof.
Thus it will be seen that the valises are so constructed and operated on the intake stroke of the plunger of the pump i8, fluid will be drawn into the cylinder of the pump, but on the downstrolre of the plunger, the fluid will be forced from the pump.
A pipe section 20 has connection with the extension 19 and affords means whereby the curved pipe section 25 may be connected with the extension 19, which pipe section 25 is provided with perfor-ations Q2 to permit the fluid to pass laterally therefrom.
Extending into the pipe section 25 is a removable vertical pipe section 23, which is also formed with a plurality of spray openings 2li disposed in spaced relation with each other and extending throughout the length thereof. Y
Mounted on the upper end of the pipe 28 is a spray head 25 which is also formed with spray openings Q6 arranged in the under surface thereof, which spray openings direct fluid downwardly over the outer surfaces of the dishes supported within the container.
The upper end of the spray head E25 is closed to insure against water being, sprayed upwardly where it would have no utility as a cleaning fluid.
The cover for the container is indicated by the numeral 27 and may be removed or positioned on the container 5 readily.
A discharge openingY 28 is formed in the container and is supplied with a pipe and Valve construction so that the fluid in the container may be emptied after the dishes have been washed. Y
In the use of the device, the dishes to be Washed are positioned on the rack in such a. way that the dirty sides will be exposed to the spray passing through the spray openings of the pipes 25 and 23. Seal/ding` water and soap may now be placed within the'container and the cover positioned as shown by Figure l.
rlhe operator now operates the pump to force the liquid through the spray openingand onto the dishes, whereupon Lue water cleanses the dishes.
Should it be desired to clean larp'cr articles such as churns, bowls or the like, the dish rack may be removed and a churn such as indicated in dotted lines in Figure l may be positioned over the spray head and the pump operated to force liquid into the churn.
I claim v In a dish washer, a body portion, bracket members secured wit-hin the body portion adjacent to the bottom thereof, a removable bottom formed of wire mesh material, supported on the bracket members and dividing* the body portion into an upper and a lower compartment, a dish raclrin the body portion and resting on the removable bottom, said dish rack including a lower circular member and an upper circular member, rods haring` loops formed therein and eonnect-iup` the circular members, the loops defining;v recesses to support dishes therein, a spraying; pipe extending through the lower compartment and extending upwardly through the central portion of the body portion, said spray pipe having openings formed throughout the length thereof and adapted to spray water laterally onto dishes supported on the rack, said pipe terminatingl at a point adjacent to the upper end of the body portion, a nozzle on the free end of the pipe for spraying water passing through the pipe, and means for drawingliquid from the lower compartment and forcing liquid through the spray pipe.
